Renting a Car or land tour from taxi driver?

My husband wants to tour the island and doesn't want to take one of Carnivals tours so has anyone ever rented a car and drove around? Or can anyone suggest a good company to just take a short tour of the island and find out a bit of its history? Thanks for any help you can give me.

We've rented a car several times in GC. We go through Avis...they are located at the airport, but they send a rep. out to pick you up at one of the downtown shops. We've drove to Rum Point on our own...saw the Botanical Gardens--way to far to see by taxi. It's a great value. We'll be going twice in Feb. and will rent a car at least one of the stops. They do drive on the left though which takes a bit of getting used to.

I'd rent a car and drive around the island. It's perfectly safe to venture down any of the roads...and stop wherever you see something that interests you. We particularly love the East End. We use Andy's for our car rentals. :)

Does Andy's have a website? Are they located at the pier? Thanks

www.andys.ky They have locations on Seven Mile Beach and the airport.

Cayman Auto Rentals is really the only car rental outfit within easy walking distance of the tender piers. They are a couple blocks north of the docks. There are places to rent motor scooters closer.

Thanks for the info. Their 7 mile beach location is at the Marriot Hotel. Do you know how for this is from tender pier? If we can't walk it, what is the cost and how long of a taxi ride is it? Thanks again
