margbem Posted January 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2008 :) We are being transferred from Hotel Carlton and Grand Canal by RCI to the port for boarding the Splendour. We have read negative comments on boarding in Venice. As we have elderly parents with us (86 & 82) we are a bit worried if we have to carry cases/wait about a lot. Anyone with any advice, please? cusyl Posted January 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2008 Not sure what you mean? Venice has a very nice terminal and embarkation was no problem for us. We stayed in Mestre and had a land taxi deliver us direct to the ship. There were porters to check in our luggage.
petel Posted January 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2008 :) We are being transferred from Hotel Carlton and Grand Canal by RCI to the port for boarding the Splendour. We have read negative comments on boarding in Venice. As we have elderly parents with us (86 & 82) we are a bit worried if we have to carry cases/wait about a lot. Anyone with any advice, please? We understand your question but I think the bad times may be over. During the modification of the airline and cruise terminals there were NO porters and no help of any kind getting thru the airline terminal after baggage claim. That has been fixed! RCI got busy and worked out how to pick up their transfers nearer the baggage claim area in the airport instead of the several hunderd yard walk thru the "under construction" area carrying your own bags. If you have RCI transfers you don't have any worries. Hope this helps. I'm sure someone will post the latest. Enjoy :) The other end of the problem was the cruise terminal was several blocks from the ship boarding location. That mean you had to check in, board a bus (only with your carry ons this time) and be bussed over to the ship. That meant climbing stairs or waiting for a very slow single elevator but still walking a significant distance (with carry ons ) for some of the guests. It was a tough trek for the seniors amung us. That to is now fixed. So, I think you will find that what you heard / read is now history.
margbem Posted January 4, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted January 4, 2008 Pete and Marilyn - thanks for your reply. I think the problems you described were what I had read about. Sounds like everything's OK now.:)
