Cruisechic470 Posted January 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2008 I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. What is the ocean lab on the Explorer?
pmshirl Posted January 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2008 It's an aquarium with tropical fish in it. It is built in the wall on the ship.
Sue L Posted January 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2008 It's an aquarium with tropical fish in it. It is built in the wall on the ship. Sorry to correct you but what you described in the Aquarium bar. The Oceanographic Lab is a full lab with visiting scientists and is the only lab of it's kind on a cruise ship in the world. There is both a oceanographic component and a atmospheric section. You can take a tour of both and there is a book to sign up for the tour. The only offer the tour a couple of times throughout the cruise so I would sign up early if you are interested. It was very interesting.
Sue L Posted January 6, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2008 I forgot to add that they show a short movie that explains the whole lab and the projects it is doing. The lab is conjunction with I think the University of Miami but I am having a senior moment so not positive.
pmshirl Posted January 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2008 Ty Sue for the correction! Is this something new that has been added to the ship? I don't recall this being on the ship when I cruised 2004.
Sue L Posted January 6, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2008 Ty Sue for the correction! Is this something new that has been added to the ship? I don't recall this being on the ship when I cruised 2004. I am not sure how long it has been on there but I got the feeling that the ship was built with it in it. This article is a bit out of date but you get to see what it is about. http://www.seacoos.org/News/News_Item.ExplorerArticle
