Kona Koncerns

Recommended Posts

On PofAm 3/1/08. DM (75), DS(40s), DNiece(23) and me (50s). DN and I want to do Fair Winds a.m. snorkel trip. DM and DS have never been in the ocean or any body of water over their heads.

Option 1 -- Rent car at King Kam, all four do FW (might be able to get them in water with inner tubes and view boxes once we get them there) and then Place of Refuge on the way back.

Option 2 -- DN and I do FW (rental or cab?) and send DS and DM on NCL Kona By Land and Sea (glass bottom boat, PofR).

I read some previous threads about concerns with rental cars and trying to get to FW but seemed those folks were renting from airport and not King Kam near the port. DM and DS say whatever I decide is fine with them. Thanks for your input.

If you are on one of the early tenders and get your car at King Kam right at 8 am, no problems at all. We were going to do that and I decided I would rather enjoy the scenery, so cancelled the car and took a taxi. Took 7:30 tender and got there way early at 8:15 am.

Enjoy your trip!

I agree with pp. Take a taxi, about $20 for 7 passenger van, and no problems. Everyone of all ages loved FW. Staff is great and will work with newbies. Floats, etc are readily available. Lunch was great and nature lecture after lunch was interesting even if you don't do much snorkeling. LOVED LOVED LOVED this trip. Have the taxi let you out at Lava Java for a Kona coffee milk shake on the way back and enjoy the short stroll back to the pier!
