D1 beds

We are booked in a D1 for the four of us. My husband and myself, our 18 year old son, and our 11 year old son.

The twin converts into a queen; but does the sofa turn into the only other bed or is there a pull down bed made into the wall/ceiling?

Thanks guys!!!

We will be sailing on the Mariner...Stateroom 9620 in the middle on the hump.

The only other bed is a convertabed made from the sofa. May be kind of small for an 18 and 11 year old. Also, when the bed is out, it makes moving around the room nearly impossible. The main bed is just a couple of feet from the wall as it is. Did you check on how much more it would be to put the boys in a room down the hall (inside)? it is usually not much more than paying a 3rd and 4th rate to stay with you. Great stateroom location, though!:)

We were in a D1 for an 11 day cruise to Hawaii with my DH and my 7 & 5 yr olds. The room was TOO small. When the sofa bed was down, it was next to impossible to walk past the sofa bed to our bed.

We upgraded the next morning to a Junior Suite, It was wonderful!!!!!

Check out this website for an actual view of the room. http://www.virtualtoursusa.com

Maybe a better and cheaper solution than a suite. Get an inside cabin across the hall for the two boys. Typically an inside cabin will run you only about $200-$300 more than what it is costing to have the boys in the room with you.

Consider first that the sofa bed in not very confortable for adult size people. Secondly one bathroom for four is difficult at best. The beds in the inside cabin can be twins which would work fine for the boys. If you want to be able to communicate with them a two way baby monitor works great and is also a way for you to monitor the 11 year old if he goes to bed and the 18 year old stays out.

Baby monitors work fine even from several rooms away. On our family reunion cruise we have four of them going at once. One was for the 8 and 13 year old's room across the hall and the others were used for the younger ones rooms who were in with their parents. We had one adult from the family be the babysitter(hall monitor) each night and he/she would take all the monitors into one room.

Just one word of caution on changing to two rooms. You are now in a quad. If you change RCCL may insist that you move to double so make sure you are happy with the rooms they want to assign you. Do not do it blindly.

In our case when we made the change they tried to move one of the families away from the entire group and at one point had the kids a half a ship away from their parents. It was only because we use a TA and an agency that has a lot of clout that we got them to put us back together. It took a month and the involvement of the regional sales manager for the agency to get it fixed.
