maryannha123 Posted September 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2004 I am sailing on the Sun on 11-13 & was wondering what the smoking situation is on this ship. Are there places that a non-smoker should definitely avoid? Is the ship pretty well ventilated?
ute_fan Posted September 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2004 We were on the Sun in June. The freestyle daily smoking policy states: "Smoking is only permitted in the designated Smoking Areas and Open Decks." From what I remember, there is no smoking in any of the dining rooms or the theater. I know at the outdoor buffet, smoking is permitted on one side of the ship, and prohibited on the other (the tables will be marked with no smoking symbols on the non-smoking side), the same in the observation lounge, and probably the same in the remaining bars. We would occasionally smell smoke walking through the bar areas, but nothing really annoying (as non-smokers, the smell bothers us quite a bit). The only place I was extremely conscious of the smoke was in and around the casino. One nice feature of the Sun is a walkway that goes up the side of the casino, so you don't have to walk your kids through the casino. However, even that walkway was so smokey I just about had to hold my breath walking through. We didn't spend any time at all in the casino, but if you're planning on it, you will probably have problems with the smoke there.
Cruise_More_Often Posted September 15, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2004 We were on the Sun in April/May, and I believe the bars on the port side of the ship are set aside for smoking. The first day aboard we went to the Champagne Bar, which is on the port side, but after that day we noticed that the smoke was too heavy there. Ditto on the smoky casino. We started to go in but stopped just inside the entry and backed out. We had really wanted to play the slots for a few minutes, too. The exhaust system must work very well, however, because other than those areas, we never noticed the smoke. Have a wonderful trip!
jenlynmc Posted September 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2004 We didn't notice the smoking anywhere but the casino. It wasn't that bad in there unless you sat at a table or machine right next to a smoker. Just stay out of there and you should be fine. Have fun.
