Carnival faithful thinking of going Princess.

i've never tried, but are you guaranteed a table for two on carnival? my first cruise was princess, and i thought i would like the anytime dining, so that's what i chose to do. and i didn't mind it. but then we recently went on carnival and we loved the assigned seating. i didn't think i would like it, but you get to know the waiters, and luckily we got two great ones, and it's nice to just walk right in and sit down without waiting for your table.

We never had a wait with anytime dining. The only ones we saw that had a wait were the 2 top tables. We had a party of 6.

You can request the same waiters every night.

After doing anytime it will be hard for us to go back to traditional....

Well, my dad goes on Princess with his wife 2-3 times a year. I don't know if it's just the ones he goes on, but I always look at all his pictures when he gets back from a trip and I've noticed it's all older people (he's in his late 60s.) They've had a few issues with Princess (billing problems) but his brother-in-law has a frequent cruiser thing that lets them get in to watch the captain steer the ship, and other perks, so they've put up with it.

I wouldn't mind a cruise with older people because you'll find me siting in a corner and reading, not drinking and clubbing... but these were people with oxygen tanks and in wheelchairs. I don't think there was a lot happening on the ships, my dad walks around and films with his video camera and it always looks deserted. My stepmom plays bingo or she gets seasick and hangs out in their room. I'm sure they have a kids' club but I wonder if there wouldn't be many other kids for yours to play with?

He's going to the Baltic sea this Spring and Asia in the Fall on Princess, I'll have to keep an eye out for his pics from those cruises and see if they're the same.

YMMV!

There is no way the passengers on Princess are old with oxygen tanks and in wheelchairs on their regular cruises like Carnival's. If you are talking about long cruises that Carnival does not do, then it simply is not fare to compare with something Carnival does not offer. Going to the exotic itineraries that Carnival does not offer is going to be older folks since the younger ones are still working and cannot get off work for the longer voyagers. Who do you think are on these World cruises?

We sail both Princess and Carnival and it all depends where the ship goes is to what you get for your age group. It was mostly college kids on our March trip on Princess and it was a blast. The Western Caribbean in October had a younger age group, however the Eastern Caribbean in April were older in their 50-70's but no way wheelchairs and tanks.

Just what ships did your Dad go on and where did he go? It's only fair to paint an accurate picture.

All cruises that have longer itineraires will have older people on them no matter what cruisline....even Carnival lol!

I agree with you the age thing is a total myth. You will get the younger crowd on Carnivals short cruises which Princess does not offer so there can be no comparison IMO.

Just my opinion, but I think tables for 2 on any cruise line is a bit of a joke! They are so close together, that it's almost like sitting at a large table! Felt like you could never have a private conversation without someone listening!!

Some Ships have booths for 2, ya can't get any more private than that in a cruise ship dining room..

We have sailed with Carnival 3 times and loved every cruise. We chose Coral Princess for Alaska, liked the itinerary and also 7 day land tour prior to the cruise. We had a fantastic cruise and would love to cruise with Princess again. We have also sailed Norwegian 2 times and Royal Caribbean once. We enjoyed all our cruises but always seem to come back to Carnival. We are planning our 4th Carnival cruise on the Valor on August 31, can't wait.

I think you will be very happy with Princess. Alaska is amazing, you will enjoy your cruise no matter which ship you end up taking.

Hey, We'll see you in Aug.:)

For Alaska, I'd go with whatever ship has an enclosed pool/spa area. HAL has some amazing enclosed pool areas, and to me, that would be very important on an Alaskan cruise. I can only imagine how nice it would be to be soaking in a hot tub all nice and cozy under the Alaskan skies.

We've only sailed HAL, Carnival, Celebrity and Princess, and we've never done the Alaska cruise, but that's the one thing I'd be looking for.

we had to wait for a table for two. it was usually about 15-30 minutes, depending on what time we went down to eat. and we requested the same table for the last three nights. the other nights, the waiters just weren't anything great, so we didn't feel the need to be seated there again.

Yes it seemed only couples were the ones who had to wait. We had great service and we were seated at different tables every night. It seemed the waiters were soo much more relaxed and not running around with their heads chopped off like in the traditional dining room. I was impressed anyways. It just worked out really well for us to get ready on our own time. Now I'm ready to try freestyle on NCL. Anytime dining will be a big factor on choosing my next cruise that's for sure......

Kurb don't confuse Anytime w/Freestyle...not the same. :p Freestyle blows chunks IMO.

A friend of mine has a son who went Princess. They still love him, but family gatherings are kind of awkward now.

LMAO....pitchin' or catchin'?:p

What didn't you like about it:confused:

Anytime...had a standing res for a two top next to a window. If i didn't want to go...just called and told them i wasn't going to be there.

TBT, the whole NCL experience sucked. The only good thing about that cruise (was over valentines day) was that we decided we were getting divorced :D

I would never have a standing reservation for anytime. What's the point. Do traditional lol!

Sounds like your NCL cruise was very memorable:cool: :(

Didn't want to do traditional. Early was too early and late was too late for me...so I picked my own time...that's what i liked about it.

Yes, it most certainly was :D

Neither do I.

Well, you know, this is why I said YMMV.

My dad tends to go on longer cruises, to more exotic locales. He wants to hit all the continents before he dies. :)

He's remarked to me that the passengers seemed old to him, and he's 66! He talked to me about how everything went slow, boarding the ship and leaving, because so many needed special assistance from the crew, and with walkers and such. I'm not sure what ships he went on with Princess, but he went to: Alaska, Panama Canal/South America and Europe this past year and a half.

NO, he was not complaining! He's very good natured and easy going, and not in any rush, so he just had a chuckle about it. I think he's just worried that will be him someday. (Doubtful, his aunt and uncle are in their 80s and are very active people.)

So what I'm saying is: it may be very different with the shorter cruises which leave from American ports.

After one Princess, two HAL, and eight Carnival cruises IMHO Princess is a combination of HAL and CCL and taking the worst of both lines.

In future cruises will be based on itenerary and price with any other line, HAL, CCL then Princess.

Which part? The anytime or the divorce?

Ok...there was one good part about the NCL experience. Had two hotties following me around. One even decided that my feet and thighs needed to be massaged (by her feet) whilst i was in the hot tub. HT chick even decided she needed to lightly rub my back and whishpered something to me in the casino whilst winning at black jack.:D

I loved the Lido deck food on Princess. I've cruised on the Grand Princess and the Diamond Princess. I love salad, vegetables, and fruit. Princess offers a great variety of each. I have also cruised on RC and Carnival. I've had a great time on every cruise I have taken. There IS MORE TO DO on a Carnival ship than there is on either Princess or RC, in my opinion. There is no reason to be bored on a Carnival ship because there are so many fun activities planned that you can participate in.

Have a great time on your cruise!!!

browneyes7:)
