drenabegay Posted January 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2008 My dds are very close in age & are good buddies (11 & 13). They would really like to hang out together & do the kids' club activities. They would have much more fun. Past cruises have always said that they must be segregated. Is there any way around this restriction? I'm almost tempted to lie about their ages. They are saying that they don't want to do any kids' club activities because of this issue but there are some fun activities. We are going on the Dawn Princess in April.:(
mcfam5 Posted January 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2008 There was a thread a few days ago about this topic. I think it depends on the staff, the ship and the number of kids as to whether or not they will do it. Our last experience was that they would not. I wouldn't lie about it ~ they will know how old they are. I am sure they will have fun regardless!:)
mjmalino Posted January 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2008 I have heard, but do not have any confirmation on this, that Princess will allow an older sibling to stay down with the younger, but not the other way around. So there is hope.
Cruisin' Chick Posted January 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Normally, a child is placed in the group according to the age (which the cruiseline will have). But if two kids want to stay together, the older one can move down a group. There are many reasons for this. Just think of it from the counselors' viewpoint: they probably get many parents insisting that their kids are "mature" for their age. And look at it from the older kids' viewpoint, do 13-yr-olds enrolled in the teen program want a 11-yr-old that they don't know "invading" their area? abitaturbodog Posted January 20, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Once on board, you might find that your girls aren't really interested in the kids club at all. The older my boys get, the more they find their own friends on board and hang out at the pool, playing games, etc. We are usually able to make some friends on the Roll Call before sailing, so the kids already know a little about each other. Rare karatemom2 Posted January 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2008 We were on the Dawn last summer and my daughter was just a few weeks shy of her 8th birthday so at first she wanted to move up to the 8-12 group. They were adamant that she could not move up and it will do you no good to try to fudge the age. They have a list in advance of all the kids onboard with their ages so they will know how old your girls are. My daughter ended up loving the group she was in and made some great friends. One of them was an 8 year old who moved down from the older group because she felt uncomfortable with the older kids. So from my experience it appears they will allow a move to a younger group but they will not under any circumstances allow a move to an older group. The good news is that there are lots of activities outside the kids club that your girls can do together.
drenabegay Posted January 21, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted January 21, 2008 I was thinking that the 13 yo would be more comfortable with the younger group. Maybe we will be surprised though and she will be more into the teenage group.

My DS will just have turned 13 before we sail, and he's....umm....not real mature for his age. Great kid and all, but he'd do better with the younger kids!
