flipflopgal Posted January 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Hi all, Leaving on Friday for our southern carrib cruise and have options of diving in St Marteen, St Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Curacao or Aruba. Can you recommend your top TWO islands/sites from the above mentioned places to arrange dives ? We prefer one tank dives - probably intermediate level, nothing too deep and challenging but not 30 feet beginner only dives either. Thanks much ! cruzegirl Posted January 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Ok, the only port I've been diving in is St. Lucia. With that said, GO DIVE IN ST. LUCIA.....lol.. I loved it.... It is beautiful......Not as much beach area there so diving is a good thing.... I used Dive Fair Helen ( www.divefairhelen.com ) for our dives. We did a reef dive first and then a wreck dive on the second.... It was awesome.... Here are a couple of photos........Enjoy Flamingo Tongue Nudibranch Wreck of the Lesleen M
w&k Posted January 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2008 If you want to do only one tank... I would do Curacao with Suzy & Mark at The Dive Bus http://www.the-dive-bus.com and an afternoon one-tanker with Clive at Dive Aruba http://www.divearuba.com. We are heading out at the end of next month, and are also going back to see our friends John and Mary at Dive Barbados http://www.divebarbados.net, but I don't know if they do an afternoon one-tanker. Have a great time! Wendy pix http://community.webshots.com/user/wendyandkeith website http://www.freewebs.com/wendyandkeith
scubadiver888 Posted January 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2008 flipflopgal, I would say w&k are right on the money. I have not dove in Curacao but I will be in April. I have been corresponding with Suzy & Mark at The Dive Bus and they sound like a great bunch of people. Out of the places I have dove, Aruba would be my first choice. Have fun! Donnaluv2cruise Posted January 22, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2008 FlipFlopGal, I'll be doing that same itinerary in March. If you wouldn't mind, when you get back could you give us a report on where you snorkeled and dived and how it was? I'd really appreciate it! ;)
dtchem1 Posted January 22, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2008 Definitely St Lucia and Curacao, if you must choose
bruce-r Posted January 22, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2008 Definitely St Lucia and Curacao, if you must choose I agree with the Curacao recommendation but I can't offer an opinion about St. Lucia as I have no personal experience there. I would definitely put St. Maarten at the bottom of the list for diving quality.
gmcrow Posted January 23, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 23, 2008 Hi all, Leaving on Friday for our southern carrib cruise and have options of diving in St Marteen, St Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Curacao or Aruba. We prefer one tank dives - probably intermediate level, nothing too deep and challenging but not 30 feet beginner only dives either. Thanks much ! Just returned from all of those ports except Grenada. Best diving in this order: Curacao, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Aruba, Barbados. From reading the boards I blame the operator for Barbados being at the bottom. Will try it again in the future. Aruba was next to last due to the wasted second dive. The Antilla is an awesome wreck to dive, but not much else to see after that. Our dives in St. Maarten were not bad, but not great either. St. Lucia was with Dive St. Lucia and I think you would get great diving there with ANY operator. Same with Curacao. We dove with Blue Bay Divers, one shore dive and one boat dive. Nice folks there. We have fuul reports posted on some of these stops as well as pics and video at http://www.cruisedivers.blogspot.com Have fun. Wish we could go back already! scubamargie Posted January 29, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2008 I totally agree with w&k re: The Dive Bus http://www.the-dive-bus.com This shore dive was one of the highlights of our last cruise. Suzy is a blast and the location is so convenient, beautiful reef, all very easy. We also dove Grenada with mixed reviews. The first dive was just so-so, but the second was awesome - wreck dive on the Veronica L. (watch out for the killer damsels). We dove with Dive Grenada and although getting into the boat from the beach is a challenge, Gary was an excellent dive master. He even let us enter the water first since we do pretty well on air and he wanted to give us as much bottom time as possible.
