Baitman19 Posted January 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2008 Does the Gem have a British-style Pub like the Dawn and the Spirit? Do they serve "Fish & Chips" or any other British dishes? Don There's a bar called "Maltings Beer & Whiskey Bar". Sounds comparable to Pearly Kings on the Dawn. The last time on the Dawn, they didn't serve the fish n chips anymore. You had to go the Blue Lagoon for it. Somebody wrote they serve it in the Blue Lagoon on the Gem. We'll find out this Saturday Happy Cruising

Don In a word, "No". As Baitman points out, there IS a bar called "Maltings Beer & Whiskey Bar" in Bar Central on Deck 6 of the Gem but it sadly lacks the ambiance of the British-style pubs on the Dawn & Spirit. I had a pint of Bass there on our cruise on the Gem but both DW & I did not like the decor. Way too modern and not like a traditional British-style pub. And, no they do not serve fish & chips in Maltings as they do in the pub on the Dawn. They DO serve them, however, in the Blue Lagoon up on Deck 8. Have a great cruise. The Gem is a wonderful ship! trish1c Posted January 23, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 23, 2008 While Maltings & Spinnaker Lounge both have about 50 beers including some good European specialities, there is nothing with the atmosphere of Pearly Kings or anyother pub for that matter. that area is an Art gallery. They are all bars/lounges/nightclubs. Your best bet will be the Star Bar. Bar Central has way too much neon. Fish & Chips are available at the Blue Lagoon.
