Will we be wandering with nothing to eat or do?

Recommended Posts

Hi! CANNOT WAIT! Okay, that being said,:D I have a question. We are fairly young and like to be up late. When the compass says 'late', does that mean 3am, 4am? Or does any stay open 24 hours? Also, how early do the bars/clubs open?

And also, in case we get munchies, is there food available 24 hours? Or should I pack some snacks?

Thanks! So looking forward to this cruise and thanks for all the help and answers I've gotten!

i would say late means til 2 or 3 am- i was out and about at 3 am on nav in jan and the crew had started vacuuming schooner bar and as i was walking thru the casino a guy said we are closed and acted like he wanted me to keep on walking- did see about 4 ppl still playing slots then - there was food at cafe promenade- pizza and sandwiches i think- and room service is 24 hours - don't know about the disco but know its usually open late- if there are enough ppl in a venue to warrant it staying open maybe they do keep it open longer? with the exception of musicians who quit at their certain times each night/ day........

have fun- you will be hooked!

I would not pack snacks for anything but the trip to port. even if you find that what you crave in the middle of the night isn't available, Something Is. You can always take some extra *whatever* from WJ when it is open for enjoyment later.

You will not be wandering hungry if you know where to look!

The hours that various bars/lounges etc. are open or the time that they close will depend somewhat on the particular demographic of your cruise. If the crowd is younger and more active you can expect things to go on later into the night or early morning. If the crowd is older, or the itinerary is port-intensive with people needing to get off the ship early each morning, things may close up at an earlier hour. On Radiance ships the Sea View Cafe and, on some ships at least, the Solarium are places where a late night snack may be available. Check your Cruise Compass for their hours of operation. Room service is available on a 24 hour basis so you need never go hungry even if the restaurants etc. are closed.

At least one bar is open early in the day, and others are open until "late"- a time which generally depends on the crowd onboard.:)

Thanks! Good to know about room service. The folks on my roll call seem like fun lovers, and like they would like to be out and about late. So I guess there is hope for late nights yet! Who knows? Maybe I'll be so tired that I'll pass out at midnight every night!:D

Keep in mind you will be getting up early to get into port especially if you have any early tours. Sometimes the best of intentions are beaten down by sheer exhaustion.

Do put some thought into how you spend your time because inevitably you will get home at the end of it all and wonder where did the week go?

Unless you lead a fairly regimented life at home where you have to get up 6 or 7 days a week at the crack of dawn to go to work, odds are you do have time here and there to stay up late and party. Partying late on board a ship is just the same as at home. The disco will be a darkly lit, windowless cave where the dancing and fun goes on until 3 or 4AM. Of course, you don't have to drive home! :D

Sunrises at sea happen only during your cruise. Visits to foreign and hopefully exciting new lands happen during your cruise. Make the most of it, and hit the hay early (midnight?) on some evenings. Afternoon naps are good!

Bon voyage~~

I've noticed on our cruises, that the population of the disco varies depending on the passengers, and if people are still dancing and drinking at 2 or 3 a.m., the place stays open. I've also seen them shut by midnight (usually on evenings before an early morning port call).

The interesting factor is what I call the "critical mass on the dance floor" factor. I've gone down to the disco with my wife and we went and danced when there was no one else, or only one or two other couples on the floor and the club in general was sparsely populated. When that's the case, you'll see people walk in, look around, give an expression that clearly says "this place is dead, lets go somewhere else."

But if the dance floor is full, people will walk in and either jump on the floor or hit the bar fro a pre-dance drink. And then the party just builds from there. Everybody who walks in stays! So, we always try to get some friends to go with us, or even try rounding up others at our table, etc. so that we make sure that we can fill up the dance floor with enough people to get others to join the party. In the long run, this keeps the club open later. So do your part, and don't give up if the club is empty. You might be able to help build it back up and keep it open later. Also, request good music if the DJ is playing crap. Crap music scares off clubbers too.

I would say it depends on the cruise director, the ship and the crowd. On Freedom, we left olive or twist at 4:00 am and were far from the last people to leave. It was still packed with live music. And on Monarch, we left Circuit at 2:00 am when we were kicked out cause they closed. We made our own party in the arcade.

I was on the Navigator last March and it was a snore after 11pm every night. :( I am not one to stay up and party all night but wow, it almost made me want to book Carnival - almost! :D The Dance Club was empty every night and the Schooner Bar had put me to sleep piano music playing every night. The only thing I saw was the Latin Band put on a good show near the Champagne Bar but it isn't really my kind of music although it was fun to watch. The one midnight buffet was stuffed with people stuffing their faces before going to bed. I truly hope my upcoming cruise on AOS will be a little more upbeat in the nighttime department.

Also - some people enjoy staying up on their cruises and having fun - each person makes their own choices on their vacation. I for one have NO desire to wake up at the crack of dawn and watch a sunrise. I have seen enough in my lifetime to set my alarm on vacation to see another. To each is their own. :)

On Vision a couple years ago we tried to get room service to bring us hamburgers at 3 or 4 a.m.. They said no, they were already cooking breakfast, but if we wanted breakfast something they'd bring it to us. We said no thanks, because by then a burger is what sounded good. So, while there's always food available, it isn't necessarily what you're looking for.

I can recommend the chicken wings from room service for a late night snack:) Oh and we tried, room service will not deliver to the bars (at least not on the Jewel)

When we were on the Grandeur, we didn't find out about the chicken wings until the last night (our room service menu was missing, and the steward didn't replace it until the last night). How are they? Are they pretty good? How are they cooked?

Thanks

You will probably find that the crowd on AOS is livelier than what you previously experienced. There are usually a lot of local Puerto Ricans on the AOS and they really know how to dance and party!

Thanks! I'll do my part to keep things open! I get up at 5 am. 6 days a week in my regular working life. I still never go to bed till 12 or 1 am.:D Just the way I'm wired, I guess! I expect to stay up late and get up early! I'll sleep in on our sea day and in the hotel the day before. Best part is, I'll come home Saturday afternoon and relax. then go to a superbowl party on Sunday! The fun never ends! Well, I guess it does the monday after that......:p

Well we are the same (at 43 and 46). We go to sleep at around 1ish every night and get up around 7 or 7:30. So for us closing the bars/lounges/casinos on a cruise and still get up at 7 or 8 is no biggie. And if you ever get to tired, a little nap on the sun deck is just right. :D

In general you are taking a shot with cruises and the party time. But my experience is that if you have a dozen people left in any place they keep it open as long as you drink something.

You will definitely have something to do. My Fiance and I were up VERY late every night and there was always something open, whether it be one of the bars or the casino. There is also food available 24 hours, I think it was pizza and sanwiches at the Promenade Cafe. Have fun!!!!!!

FYI, Cafe Promenades are only available on Voyager and Freedom Class ships.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. The wings are fried, not spicy at all. I think there were 4 per order so if you're really hungry get more than one order.
