Dress Code - Zenith

Is there a dress code for Celebrity or for the Zenith that I need to be aware of?

What is appropriate for a female to wear onboad (10-2-04 sailing) and what to dinner on the nights that are not formal?

What is thought of a husband and wife wearing the same fabric (his shiirt & her dress)? Is that tacky? Is there a Caribbean night where JAMS clothing would be appropriate?

Celebrity is probably the most dressy of the mass market cruise lines. There are three types of clothing for evening wear that you will have to bring: formal---tux or dark suit for the men, long evening dress, fancy cocktail dress or evening pants with a very dressy (sparkly or lacy type) top---informal, dress pants, dress shirt and sport coat and tie or no tie depending on how the men feel about ties, dressy dress or pantsuit for the women (think fancy wedding or Saturday night dinner at your best local restaurant)---casual, collared shirt and khaki-type slacks for the men and sundresses, casual slacks and tops or capris for the women.

Not very many people dress for any theme nights, and I quite honestly don't remember there being any highly advertised theme nights on our Summit cruise.

Celebrity states that the passengers remain dressed in the code of the evening, for the entire evening if you are going to be in any of the public lounges, casino or show rooms. No going back to the room to change after dinner.

If what I'm thinking of when you say "jams", I think that's far too casual for wearing to the dining room in the evening. I see the local college boys wearing them to football games and they just aren't appropriate. Daytime, OK, but not at night.

Thank you. This sounds much dressier than I expected.

We were just on the RCL Mariner of the Seas and a 15 day cruise on the NCL Dawn and there did not appear to be a dress code other than no jeans, shorts or T shirts in the dining room. Don't get me wrong, we dressed nicely for dinner, but my DH did not wear a sports coat at all. Other than his tux for formal nights, he wore a nice polo shirt and polo dress slacks. It sounds like that will not be appropriate here.

Would he feel out of place with a polo shirt in the dining room instead of a sports jacket?

JAMS is a line of clothing popular in Sanibel Island & Captiva Florida and Newport RI (Which is where we bought them). We have a few sets of matching dresses and shirts. They are colorful prints, however they don't sound good for dinner on the Zenith.

Polo shirt would be ok for casual nights.

Even though the Celebrity's website says requested, the daily on board the ship said required. We have seen people that were not dressed in the evening dress code turned away from the show on some cruises. On others, they were let in.

According to Celebrity's website - Prepare to sail - FAQ's - dress codes:

"A gentleman's choice for casual nights includes a sport shirt and slacks, while women will be comfortable in a pants suit, skirt and blouse, or casual dress.

On informal nights, men are requested to wear a jacket, shirt and tie, while women may want to wear a suit or dress.

For the formal nights, including the Captain's Welcome Aboard Cocktail Party, dinner on the second night, and the Captain's Farewell Dinner held the next-to-last night of the cruise; both men and women may prefer more dressy attire, such as an evening gown for women and a tuxedo or dress suit for men."

What about for an 11 year old boy? He has shirts and ties, and I guess I can buy him a sport coat, but do you think I need to get him a suit as well? He's growing so fast, and I hate to seem cheap, but I don't really want to spend hundreds on clothes that he won't wear again.

An 11 year-old boy will look just fine in a shirt and tie.

Ugh, I just hate the whole dress code thing. Of course, I guess they have to have some type of policy in effect or people would be running around in no telling what. I'll be doing my first X cruise in November and I have to tell you that the rigidity of the dress code has me wishing I'd have done a little more research first. I love Princess' and NCL ways of accommodating the differences in people. However, I'm a team player so we'll do the formal nights "properly". As far as semi-formal -- I'm sure we'll fall on the more informal side of semi-formal as I can't see hubby donning a sport jacket every night but we'll be clean, neat and interesting dinner companions.

Personally, I think maybe they should come up with a dress code for the pool. I've seen flesh exposed that definitely be covered. It's downright scary! I find that much more offensive than someone wearing a polo shirt on an informal night.

Anyway, we'll have a good time and will be properly attired in sparkly stuff and dark suits on formal nights (and around the swimming pool)! Happy cruising all!!!

FUNNY! Isn't that the truth! :D

You, cruzingduo, and others may find this interesting!

While the info you receive prior to the cruise does say "Coat & Tie" for Informal Nights. Once on the ship in The Daily the Dress Code for Informal: Gentlemen: Jacket, slacks. NO jeans.

Well over half of the men wore polo shirts with sports coats (saw lots of white polos with navy sports coats). It was more "business casual" than informal ....

We actually LIKE to dress for dinner ... whatever ... all the men still looked very nice.

Formal Night ... THANKFULLY, are Formal .... Seldom saw any of the men not wearing a tux or dark suit on any of our Celebrity cruises.

Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)

thanks for all the input. We have tux packed for DH with 2 different shirts and ties, and some dress shirts with bow ties. A sports jacket. Also a few polo shirts. We are leaving the matching shirt and dress home, we'll save it for the next cruise.

Did anyone go to the Wednesday night street fair in Hamilton?

Were there shows on the nights docked in Bermuda?

Was there anything that we should not miss?

thanks again.
