big_duck Posted January 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2008 There is a whole forum here at CC on old ships and where they are now. Makes for interesting reading. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=
DqALEX Posted January 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2008 I was on that ship when it went out of Tampa. We also made a stop in New Orleans, before going back to Tampa.
LHP Posted January 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2008 Yep, we have retired a few ships. Even our sons have retired two (Tropicale and Jubilee) and soon will be retiring a couple of more.
keyguide Posted January 26, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2008 And still sailing . Better memories of Tropicale than most of the bigger ships. She was beat up pretty good in a storm last year.

NowVoyager908 Posted January 27, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2008 I have great memories of the Tropicale. She was my first cruise experience . . . Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera. I remember thinking she was just huge. LOL. Put her side to side with some of today's ships and she would look like a baby whale next to its mama. shortstop95 Posted January 27, 2008 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2008 Our goal was to say we've sailed on all Carnival ships.. unfortunately we missed the Festivale and Mardi Gras before they retired.. and now a couple more have gone too. We try to get them when they're new... unfortunately after the double whammy of a really bad tropcial storm while on board in August 2001 and then 9/11 we didn't sail for a couple years... so we missed spirit.. pride.. conquest... but we're getting two more this year.. so we keep chipping away

NowVoyager908 Posted January 28, 2008 #17 Share Posted January 28, 2008 The only time I saw the Tropicale was on an episode of the A-Team. I have to tell you, I sailed on that cruise. We had no idea they were planning on filming during the cruise and there were parts of the ship we couldn't use at various times during the week. But it was still a blast. I had a teeny crush on Dirk Benedict from his Starbuck days and got a chance to see him up close and personal. Well, not that personal, but up close anyway. ;)
sparkscruiser Posted January 28, 2008 #18 Share Posted January 28, 2008 Sailed the Tropicale in 82 - my first cruise. Paid almost the same then for an OV as we are paying now for balconies on some sailings!
