Education in Belize--WHAT CAN WE DO?

Those of you who may have noticed--and deplored--the abject poverty all too evident in Belize, at least in part enabled by the corruption of the PUP government in Belize and its lack of development of infrastructure which does not directly benefit them or their nephews, may be interested in an article I just found today from a Denver, CO, news source:

Note especially what is said of the impact of the tourism industry on education.

I have visited no nation--with the possible exception of Canada--where the thirst for education is so strong among even the poorest people, and where SO LITTLE could make SO GREAT A DIFFERENCE. As much education in Belize is in the hands, as it has been for some time past, of various religious organizations--thus shielding it in some degree from the rampant corruption of what should have been a progressive government but has proved not to be--it is possible that you, through your church, synagogue, temple or mosque have already contributed to the most valuable resource for the poor in Belize. If you visit Belize and as I have been are impressed with the present level of education and the clear intellectual capabilities of the people, please consider in what ways you as an individual--and perhaps as part of a larger organization--could make a material difference in Belize and in the future of Belize. Remember, "the nest you feather may prove a great place to retire!" :D
