TigersCruiser Posted January 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2008 We are going on Carnival Cruise (Fantasy) in March. It sounds like the Uxmal ruins are the thing to do in Progreso. I have two children (9 year old girl and 4 year old boy). The 9 year old is wanting to see the ruins and I think she would do fine. Anybody have experience taking a child around 4 to Uxmal or did you see a lot of children that age there? I think he may like it since he can climb on things but, long drive, heat, and lots of walking are a little bit of a concern.
YucatanToday Posted January 31, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2008 Given the drive time with a 4-year old, you might want to consider going to Dzibilchaltun instead. It's only about 20 minutes from Progreso, there is an excellent, small museum, and a cenote for swimming. See our article at http://www.yucatantoday.com/destinations/eng-dzibilchaltun.htm
TigersCruiser Posted January 31, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted January 31, 2008 I did think about Dzibilchaltun. But, it is not near as impressive as Uxmal and Chichen Itza is it? Not every day you get to see Mayan ruins... I would like to make the best of it. I could probably keep him occupied on the drive with his Leapster. Would he like it once he got there or would he be totally bored?
YucatanToday Posted February 1, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2008 I really can't say! Climbing the pyramids is fun, but maybe that would be nerve-wracking - they can be steep!
