Pier to Old Lahaina Luau

We're on Celebrity's Infinity next month & heard that Old Lahaina Luau is one of the best luaus. Does anyone know how far from the Pier the luau is? Is it a short cab ride? I saw somewhere a while ago that some luaus will pick you up, but can't seem to find anything on it now.

Thanks.

Aloha!!

Which pier are you speaking of....... The one by the airport is about a 45 minute drive. The one in Lahaina is about a 10 minute drive.

Infinity will tender in Lahaina. It's probably around a 5-10 minute drive to Old Lahaina Luau. It's also walkable for those in reasonable condition - about 20-30 minutes. Might be nice around sunset. Would recommend taking a taxi back though (especially after drinking). Never heard about them picking up guests. Rich, you're sailing in about a month? Did you call the Old Lahaina Luau to make reservations? They do sell out on occasion you know ...

Just got back from our trip May 11 and did the luau on May 2. It was great. It's a hike from the pier in Lahaina to the luau, especially if it's hot. By the time we arrived we were more than ready for the free Mai Tai! We walked back after the show, and it was much cooler and more enjoyable.

Shocked to see Lahaina had so many shops still open at after 9 pm on a Sunday. Is that usual, or do they stay open later when a ship is in port? Just struck us as unusual.

Hawaii at last!

Must be because of the cruise ship. It's usually pretty dead late at night in Lahaina.

We will be on the Pride of Aloha in September and would like to go to the laua in Old Lahaina, but we dock in Kahului. How do we get from the ship to the luau and what is the time frame to do so?

Thanks for everyones' help. These boards are priceless.

Will you have a car? That would be the easiest. Otherwise, you're looking at taking a taxi (most likely) to get there which will be relatively pricey ($50+ each way, I would think). The drive from Kahului to Lahaina is usually around 45 minutes or so but can take longer depending on traffic. It's only a 2 lane road so if an accident takes place or if there's a scrub fire, the road can be shut down on occasion.

Thanks, Spleen
Guess I will have to get a car. Since we are in Maui for a day and a half, probably makes sense anyway.

Appreciate all your input on these boards. If you ever need any info on Maryland, I can help there. (But why would you want to leave home to come to such a boring place as Maryland???)

I've only been to two luaus: the one at the Polynesian Cultural Center in 2002 and the Old Lahaina Luau this year. The one at the PCC was just OK. Food was fair to just OK. Virtually no entertainment until the night show later, which was extra cost, but outstanding. The Old Lahaina Luau was very different. They give you all the drinks you want free, but I couldn't find any alcohol taste in any of them. The food, though, was absolutely horrid. I see many posts on these threads about how incredibly good the food is at the Old Lahaina Luau. All I can honestly think about them is that those posters don't know what good food is. With total honesty, I state very emphatically here that the buffet we encountered at the Old Lahaina Luau was, by far, the worst food I have ever encountered in my almost 62 years on this planet. The beef was tougn and almost tasteless. The chicken made made gag. The fish dish was reminiscent of the smell of catfish bait. I must admit that the desserts were less bad...but marginally so. My wife isn't nearly as "picky" as I am, but she, too, had to go back to the ship to find something decent to eat. I didn't particularly care for the entertainment, either. Compared to the entertainment at the PCC, it was pretty poor. Sorry, but I certainly can't recommend the Old Lahain Luau. There must be better ones out there somewhere.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Yours is one of the few bad reviews I've heard of regarding the Old Lahaina Luau which is consistently rated as one of the best luaus in the state. Knowing that everybody has bad days and difficulties with food can be subjective, what was it about the entertainment that you didn't care for? The entertainment will be different from PCC given that PCC covers hula and other forms of dance from around the various Polynesian islands whereas OLL primarily concentrates on Hawaiian hula.
