canuckwoman Posted February 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2008 I have narrowed my choices down to the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn for our 2 night pre-cruise stay. Can anyone tell me what would be the better choice and why. I would appreciate any help or opinions.
shonandsuzie Posted February 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2008 Are you speaking of the ones in the Isle Verde area? If so, I really liked the Hampton Inn. It is a very new looking building. The Holiday Inn looked nice too but not as nice.
ancldaca Posted February 1, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2008 I second the Hampton. My parents stay there quite often when they come to visit and have always been satisfied. It is also a much newer building. The Holiday Inn used to be the old Carib Inn which was closed for some 5 years I think...
canuckwoman Posted February 1, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted February 1, 2008 Yes, Hampton Inn & Holiday Inn in Isle Verde. From what I understand the beach is 1 block away - can you rent chairs & umbrellas? What would be your favorite places to eat. We are not into expensive fine dining. Looking forward to seeing as much as possible of San Juan as it sounds beautiful!

orquidia Posted February 3, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2008 I rather stay in Holiday Inn Isla Verde, it is a newly reworked hotel and it is an easy walk to beach, restaurants and supermarket, also next to Embassy Suites if you like casinos. Hampton Inn has a busy road in the back which i find very disturbing when you are in the pool area.
wckdtrix Posted February 7, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2008 We just returned from our cruise out of San Juan. We went down a day early and stayed at the Holiday Inn. It was very nice. We were on the 8th (top) floor, and had a small balcony with a view of the ocean and pool area. Room was small, balcony was small...but the room was very clean, nice, and more than served its purpose. We ate at the Outback steakhouse at the Embassy Suites next door. I know, not very adventurous...but we knew what to expect, and it was within easy walking distance...plus we wanted to check out the casino at the Embassy. The beach was around a block or so away. Not sure about renting chairs or umbrellas....we just walked down to look at the ocean, and didnt stay long, as we had just gotten into town, and wanted to keep exploring. shonandsuzie Posted February 8, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2008 We actually stayed at the Embassy Suites right next to the Holiday Inn. If you like casinos, Embassy Suites' was not one of the better ones in the area. The resort casinos across the road from Hampton Inn were much better. I believe the walk to the beach would be the same distance from either.

Most of the machines wouldnt even accept our money. We certainly didn't stay long. We pretty much just played a few slots (the ones that would accept money) until our table was ready for us at the Outback.
