Fun Ship Dollars

I did a search and nothing came up for Fun Ship Dollars.

 

What can the Fun Ship (gift certificate) Dollars be used for other than to pay for the cruise, which will already have been done, and drinks?

 

Can I use them to pay for excursions that I book online?

As far as I've read on here, funship dollars can be used for anything that is on your sign and sail account. If you book excursions on line, then you have to pay for them right away, so you I don't think you can use them for that. If I'm wrong than I'm sure someone will correct me. :) ;)

My mom gave me funship dollars for Christmas, I sent it in for an onboard credit. It stated on the funship dollars that it could not be used for tips, but that was the only restriction on it as far as OBC went. I plan on using mine for drinks, photos, bingo cards, etc.

It sounds like I can use them for excursions if I pay on board and not ahead of time.

I use Fun Ship Dollars every cruise. I have always brought them on board and had them applied to my sign and sail card but this year Carnival told me I had to mail them in at least 2 weeks prior to my cruise or I would not be allowed to use them on this cruise. Other people have been told that also.

I was told to mail mine in two weeks before time also. From what I understand, they can be used for anything but tips and casino.

We buy Funship Dollars on every payday & bring them with us when we board, go down to the Purser's desk & put them on our sign & sail. Never had a problem. They deducted the tips and we got money in the casino and put it on our sign and sail. They didn't charge our credit card for anything, even tho we put one down at check in..

I have never mailed my before either but this year I was told I had to and its written on the back of the fun ship dollars. On another post someone said they were not allowed to use them on their cruise when they went to the pursurs desk. They said they even went back when there was a shift change and they were still denied. I assume it's a hit or miss rule but I wouldn't take the chance.

Funship dollars are kind of like gift cards. They can be given as gifts to people who have cruises planned or they can be put towards your own S&S account. For example, I'm sailing on the Holiday in December. If I buy $50 funship dollars every month for the next ten months, when I get on the Holiday I'll have $500 dollars on my S&S card to spend on drinks, excursions, pictures, bingo cards, spa treatments, etc. etc. I believe they come in increments of $25, $50, $100, and $500.

 

Now do you see how funship dollars can be useful?

We received our Funship Dollars as a late Christmas gift and didn't have the 2 weeks to get it to them before our Glory cruise last month so we just took it onboard with us and had no problem at the purser's desk. Like others are saying, it probably depends on the ship you're on. And they may all stop accepting them onboard soon, who knows? We felt like we had to take the chance though due to the timing issue. Anyway, it was just applied as a credit to our sign and sail account, no problems! We had a GREAT cruise! :)

Well I guess I don't get it then. I can take that same $50 bucks and bank it. That way when I cruise I can spend it any way I would like. I can even use it in the casino and for tips. If there is any left over I can spend it for gas or a trip to the local restaraunt of my choice.

Well, then I guess that's a personal preference isn't it. ;) Some people find it easier to buy the funship dollars and add it to their S&S account in advance and then some prefer to do it your way.

For me it was the novelty. Mom and Dad asked what I wanted for Christmas, I said just give me money for the cruise this May, and instead of just writing me a check she ordered Fun Ship dollars instead.

I never had that problem but as far as I know you get a check back the last night of the cruise with your itemized bill. I would double check with Carnival though.

Thank you Jacky. I looked on their website, doesn't directly say, but it does say they have no cash value. I am thinking that might mean you cannot receive any cash for them even at the end of the cruise, but I will check with the line itself if I do decide to go that route.

 

Also it says "This certificate may not be used to pay for games of chance and or similar activities." I am thinking that would include bingo. Just an FYI for Shante and anyone else who may have thought of using them for bingo cards.

I was on the Fascination Feb 14th and I just took it to the purser's desk and had it applied to my account. No problem!

Yes that is true. But if you are like me, it is hard not to let other things get in the way of actually saving that money! Like "Mom, I NEED those 300.00 shoes!" If I purchase the funship dollars, then they go towards the sail and sign bill. No question about it. But I think the entire program was put in place for other people to buy the dollars for you as a gift.

O.K. this is what we did. We bought the fun ship dollars and when they ask you your address we put our booking number instead. You don't have to send anything in and when you get to the ship they have that balance on your sail and sign card. They send you an email with the total each time you buy them. Last cruise we started buying them in May and when we went on our cruise at the end of June we had over $450.00 on the card. They even took the tips off our sail and sign card and did NOT touch our credit card. We are going this year in October and I plan on doing the same thing.:cool: We used our cards for bingo, casino, lots of drinks and the gift shops. The last night of our cruise we did not spend the whole $450. so they put a check under the door. You can take the check to the pursers office and they will cash it for you.

Wow that is great. I wonder if all ships handle it the same or if some would not let you use it for certain things? Sounds like a great way to save to me though. Thanks again everyone.

That's good to know that they give you a check for the remaining leftover money that you do not use. :D
