on the conquest my GF and I had a problem with the safe and how everytime we went on an excursion when we would return the safe would be open. Cant tell how much was missing as I was dumb and did not count my cash I had in the safe 2k was what I had brought tried to not let it bother me cant say I was missing more then 300. But we both checked it after the second time it happend and when we came back it was open(money had been moved).

We have been on 5 cruises and nothing has turned up missing form our cabins. A coworker just returned from the Liberty last week and she had a bottle of prescription antibiotics taken from the bathroom and 2 brand new pairs of underware (tags still on) taken from the dresser. Someone had some time to look around the cabin.

Awesome post! Thank you so much! I never would have thought to lock up my scripts. Unfortunately I do take narcotics for pain so they do have a pretty high street value. Worse than that would be me without them!

The room stewards are amazing.

Not only do they provide great service and keep your room spotless, remember that 90 percent haven't seen their families in months.

If anything were to reported stolen, they would loose their jobs. I just don't think crew would ever jeopardize their jobs.

Please be nice to the crew.

They are waiting on you like babies.

Please, if it weren't for these amazing crew willing to leave their families and countries for months on end, you'd have altogether different services and not for the best.

i forgot to add my thoughts on that part..

I don't think 99% of the workers would steal

....but there is always that 1% that can think short term and just make a bad decision. it would be foolish to not think that it can happen...

guess the moral of the thread is just lock your stuff up. then make sure the safe is working

I did bring it up to one of the stewards (not my own), he said it does happen sometimes the head steward on each floor has a card that can open the safe and sometimes someone steals it he said. I also brought it up as I bought a lock for my suitcase she looked pissed I even brought it up. I had a bunch of probs with that cruise got a huge aft cabin 6foot by 12 foot at least cant remember number (look at the back of conquest top level next to suite all cabins in middle same price but two at ends 2.5x longer then others) but the steward told me he could not get me a lounge chair becuse the balcony was too small. He never did as good a job as the guy on the grand did he did a half ass job. I never brought it up further because, well, there was more just cash in there (beer:cool:) so chalked it up to the game. Food sucked to on that cruise can you believe that they mixed old eggs with fresh eggs and gave them to me for breakfast I felt like a freaking dog. My GF said her eggs were like that a day or two before I said she was wrong I told her no one would do that to you, I was wrong. Always the same breakfast too could have thrown some cheese on the second round eggs:D. Point was cool and the shows were great service and food needs some help.

You've got my attention... How did you get it back? How did the photographer help... did the person who stole it get in trouble?

Inquiring minds want to know ...well I do anyhow:D

We talked with the photographer a bit before and after the pics...probably the reason I forgot my camera. Anyway, she had put it on the sofa right next to her set-up. After we came back to inquiry about it, she remembered a young couple taking pics all up and down the area and also remembered the woman sat on the couch talking on the phone for a while. The next day when the couple showed up at the gallery to view their 20 different portraits, the photographer asked her. She didn't say she took it, but that someone had taken it and had it if anyone claimed it...I guess I was suppose to magically pick 1 person out of 2,000 to ask. Anyway, her story was fishy, but she promised to get the camera back from the person that had it and she did. It goes a little more in detail, but the bottom line is HOLD ON TO YOUR BELONGINGS...thieves cruise too.

You know, that's just plain rotten! It's too bad you have to worry about your stuff everytime you set it down. But I guess at least you got the camera back and we should all take that as a lesson.

i have never had anything stolen on a cruise. and, if i do in the future (and, i certainly hope i will not), i think the last person i would suspect as taking it would be my cabin steward or his assistant. i just do not believe that they would jeapodize their jobs in this way.

this is not to say that the cabin steward might not be at fault somehow. they do leave stateroom doors open when cleaning. i have always guessed that the reason they do this is precisely, not to be accused of theft. however, they do walk down the hall to their carts at times, and eyes are not always on that open door. although they shld always be charged with having a watchful eye on any open cabin door.

there is another matter to consider though. there has been at least one thread on here where a pax was napping in her cabin during a port stop and a maintenance worker entered her cabin through the balcony door. an important lesson to be learned there is to ALWAYS make sure you lock your balcony door when you leave the cabin. there are ground crew members in ports of call who wash windows and do other things when the ship is docked.

They have video surveillance in the halls, so it would be hard for someone to sneak in your room undetected. Still, I would always keep money and jewlery in the safe.

Other stuff could be stolen that can't fit in the safe, but it is really unlikely. Never heard of it happening on any of our cruises.

Although all of my jewelry stays on me and my money in my pocket, its hard to fit three beach towels, 2 hats and some post cards and smaller things in the safe. All of these were stolen out of our cabin on the Conquest on the May 07 sailing. Hard to imagine our wonderful cabin steward had a hand in this but who else was in our cabin? The items were kept under the bed or in a drawer after shopping at the ports but these were missing.

Too bad the safe was not bigger.

It's hard to believe your room steward would even want those things  I usually put the smaller carry on inside one of the larger suitcases and slide them under the bed. Thats usually where I keep my purse.....my wallet is in the safe ;)

its probably better meant for a different thread,

but be carefull with luggage under the bed....

especially on carribean cruises ( things grow extremely well in carribean climates )....

under the bedis also a great place for all sorts of critters to be found....( crabs, mites, bedbugs). . probably because it can easilly be neglected when it comes to cleaning and sanitizing..

i keep my small carryon inside my big suitcase, then inside the closet.. after i give the closet a lysol shower

We keep all our small stuff in the safe. Extra cash, fake jewlery, passports, airplane tickets, Canadian money, etc...not because someone might steal it, but it is all small stuff that could get knocked off the dresser or things that we done need till after the cruise. Camera, mp3 player and video camera stay on the dresser near the plug, along with the chargers. Only real jewlery I bring are my wedding rings and they go in the safe on excursions.

FYI: The safe has a small carpet fitted in the bottom that we lift out when we empty it to make sure we grabbed everything.

Just use a little common sense. Make sure that very valuable things are either in your possession or locked in the safe. Your clothes, souvenirs, photos, beach towels (why are you bringing beach towels onto a cruise ship in the first place?), and postcards are of no earthly interest to anyone, and can be safely left in the cabin.

Sheesh, you really are Snoopy, aren't you?

  • I'm real confused as to what all this cabin assignment lingo means.
  • Is Camp Carnival free?
  • what is the big deal about people not being able to drink their own alcohol on the ship?
  • For those of you who have cruised Disney and Carnival, is there really that big of a difference in kid's activities other than say, $500 or so?
  • We always request the late seating, so if I understand right, I probably have a better chance getting a two top as this is the less crowded and less popular seating option?
  • Is this new? I remember my cell would never work at sea, only at port.
  • Just curious- do you sit at your same assigned tables? Is it usually crowded or empty? Do you sit with others?
  • When you book a cruise? And what ages are discounted?
  • I read a travel article about the Pride saying it is the classy ship of Carnival's fleet. Previous Pride travelers, your thoughts?
  • I'm hearing a lot about how fun these piano bars are. What makes them so much fun? What do you do there? Forgive my ignorance!
  • You're on a CRUISE, is there someplace you have to be? (don't understand the "rushing around" part)

Not to mention the thread started mocking the NCL review. That's just in the past couple of weeks! You HAVE cruised before, right? In one thread, you commented that your husbands books your cruises, so it's not like you're a total newbie.

ANYWAY, back to the question (don't know why I'm bothering to answer though, other than to bring it back on-topic)...

Assuming anything missing must be due to theft by your room steward isn't actually "innocent until proven guilty" is it?

I lock up money & passports. That's it. Camera is with me 99% of the time.

Uhhhhhhh, WHO DIED AND LEFT YOU IN CHARGE OF KEEPING TRACK OF ALL THIS ????

MAY I SUGGEST A HOBBY :)
