Reusing mother's dress? (or parts of?)

Hello ladies, I need some help. I would like to incorporate something from my mother's dress/veil into my wedding attire. My mom's veil is white and my dress is ivory, so that won't work. And the veil has holes in it. Although, there are some silk flowers attached to the headpiece I might be able to do something with, I'm just not sure what. Her dress is a total 80's dress; white, long puffed sleeves, dropped waist, with a lace overlay. I was thinking maybe I could have hankies made out of her dress for her and I. I really would like to use something of hers, but I have no idea where to start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

I had also wondered about this idea. My mother's dress was a simple white linen/gauze dress (kind of like the one Jenny wore in Forrest Gump when they got married)....I had thought about maybe having it altered in some way but I'm still not too sure about it. Do you have any pictures of the dress?

I don't have any pics yet; my mom is sending the dress in the mail sometime this week...I hope I can salvage something from her dress to wear/have with me on my wedding day. :p

Just a thought, but when a friend of mine got married, her mother had her dress made into the cover of a photo album/scrapbook for her- she couldn't use it on the day of, but still has it and it is beautiful.

I've also heard that people are using their mother's dress to make a ring bearer pillow. You could also sew a piece of her dress inside yours.

I've had this post in the back of my mind since it went up because I wish I could come up with some amazing idea for you! Well I thought of something, I don't know exactly how you would do it or if you will like the idea but maybe you could have little matching purses out of the material? You could try to make little draw string purses with them or just use an existing purse and add the wedding dress material to the outside... HTH
