car rental in Miami

We are renting a car in Miami to drive to FLL after our cruise. Our flight does not leave until 7:20 pm. Does anyone have experience with a car rental company with this situation?

 

Any suggestions what we can do for the day, sightseeing?

Alamo, Thrifty and Dollar have shuttles that will take you to their respective offices out by Miami airport. Avis has a location in downtown Miami, 5 minutes from the port by cab.

How would we get from the Miami port to the airport? Do the rental car companies have shuttles to pick up people that already have reservations? Do we have to call the rental car company from the port to pick us up if they offer a shuttle? Sorry for all the questions.

Hertz has a location 2/3 of a mile from the port, Free shuttle service, and has no problem with a FLL drop off. I have done this a couple of times. Is so easy a caveman can do it.

Are their shuttles waiting at the port or do you have to call Hertz for the shuttle?

With todays gas prices no one can afford to just keep someone just sitting there or running back and forth with a empty van. Also in todays world with a cell phones just put there number in your cell before you go 786-425-2515 Hertz port of Miami
