dbd Posted September 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2004 We just returned from our cruise and had the time of our lives! We went cave tubing with Marvin of Coral Breeze Limited. Marvin met us at the peir and drove us in his air conditioned van through the city and countryside to the starting point. The walk was a blast! Marvin showed us all types of plants and critters. We watched a trantula and some termites. We tasted several types of fruit. Marvin took us through a dry cave and showed us bats and gave us some history of his country and the area. The river is beautiful. The water is clear and refreshing. We chose to jump into the river from the small cliff and that was truly fun. Our 11 year old jumped 6 times. The area is beautiful! We went through two caves and then floated down the river through the jungle. We stopped to swing on a vine into the river. Marvin made sure everyone had a great time and that we were all safe. We saw several other tours on the river that day but our tour and guide were the best. Some tour guides made the people hold hands the entire way, how dull. Some groups had around 50 people in them and had to stay together. We only had 9 in our group and we had the most fun of all the groups we saw. After the river trip we had lunch at an open air cafe that was really good. It was the best day. If we ever go back to Belieze (and I hope we do) we will go cave tubing again, and go with Marvin! Thanks Marvin you are the best! Debbie
Nantucketer Posted September 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2004 Hi We will be stopping in Belize in February and cave tubing has really caught my eye. Where did you find Marvin? We are traveling with our kids ages 9 and 11 and your trip sounds perfect. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
dbd Posted September 21, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted September 21, 2004 You can find Marvin when you get off the ship. He will be standing at the peir. He will be holding a sign "Paradise by Air". Just around the corner from where you come ashore is a row of small wooden buildings and he is housed in the small blue one with the same sign on it. You can probably get a better rate by booking with him direct. We booked ahead on line through http://www.coralbreezelimited.com. They are an outfit based in Maryland and receive a commission for the booking. That is why I say you could probably save money by just getting off the ship and booking direct with Marvin. We were booked (6 in our party) and he got us checked in and went to get more peple to join us. They just booked minutes before we left and we still had room in the van for about 4 more people. Once you come ashore you have about an hour to look and shop before you leave so you would have time to make the arrangements. I highly recommend Marvin, He was great. He watched out for our 11 year old and made sure we all had fun. You need to wear water shoes and bring a water camera. Marvin was the least expensive and the best guide. If I can be of further service please post. Debbie
raytownlady Posted September 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2004 Thanks for your information on Marvin, we are using him on our upcoming cruise. How much time did you have when you got back from the tubing excursion before the last tender. We don't know if we need to pick up any souviners before the tour or if we will have time after the tour ends. Thanks
dbd Posted September 24, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted September 24, 2004 We had about an hour before the trip and just looked. After the trip we had about an hour and did the shopping then. Our older son was real good with getting the price down on everything he purchased. He did not pay asking price for anything. He had fun seeing how low he could get an item. You should have plenty of time after your trip to shop. The air conditioned stores would not budge on their prices only the shops in the open air. Linda&Mike Posted September 25, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2004 dbd, How was the water level? I read on another thread that the water level was real low this time or year and you had to paddle hard? How was it for you? Thanks, Linda
dbd Posted September 25, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted September 25, 2004 In some spots we had to paddle but in other spots we gently floated. It was not uncomfortable, it was fun. They have had some rain with the storms since we were there. Debbie
