Foggy on Canada/New England cruises?

Recommended Posts

Is fog always a problem on Canada/New England cruises? I have read about ports missed due to fog. I have no idea. When is the best time to cruise this region ,outside the obvious fall foliage timing.Or is that the absolute best time? Thanks.

Fog is a fact of life in northeastern coastal regions. It can occur at any time although it is less apt to make an appearance in September. Some summers are beautiful and relatively fog free and some summers are depressingly drizzly and foggy. There is no predicting. Fog happens!!!

September and October are usually lovely months here although we can get the tail end of a hurricane or two when the US is finished with them.

You will find this area very warm in hospitality but unfortunately the weather is one thing we can't control for you.-----wish we could.

Dh and I went on a Canada/ New England 13 night cruise 9/27/07 to 10/10/07. We had no fog, and only 1 day of rain in Boston MASS. The temperatures were a lot warmer than we expected. Usually low 70's in the daytime. We had a great cruise, although fall foliage was not in full color, but living in PA we know fall foliage time varies from year to year.

Our cruise included a cuising the St. Lawrence River. We cruised into the Saguenay Fjiord, The ship turned around at a statue of Virgin Mary high on a hill while the ship played Ave Maria by 5 different music artists and then cruised back out of the Fjord. As we were exiting the Fjords we were able to see Beluga Whales. It was 4 hours of pure serenity, No houses or noises, just us and the beauty of nature while watching from our balcony. I can still feel the wonder of it all.

We will be going to Alaska in June and planned a 2 hr flightseeing trip in Misty Fjords because of our wonderful Saguenay Fjiord cruise.

As th eother poster says - Saguenay in Sept (when we went too) is beautiful & quiet. So peaceful - just gliding along & the reflection of the ship & countryside in the water with the whales escorting

us up the fjord...... a wonderful experieince.:)

Sounds wonderful. That is one of the things I am refering to ,however. I read a review where they missed the Saguenay Fjiord because of fog. I guess it's just a chance you take.I'm sure there are many other things to see.

Hey:

Texas_firefighter. I too work at the same job just outside Toronto. 30 years on the job.

I am from Nova Scotia and live in Ontario. I agree Sept. October is a great time to travel the area. Cooler but nice. New Brunswick and Quebec are awsome. great sights.

When we head back that way it's either June or Sept. Fog can hit anytime. Same as out trip to Alaska we got hit by fog and missed allot. Only good thing is we have to go back.

If you hit Halifax make sure you take in the docks. Later in the summer they roll up the carpets and things die down, but things still happen. They have an information/tourist office right downtown. Peggies Cove is another great side trip but that takes up time. Lot's of Taxi's for private tours. The Citidal etc.
