hermang Posted February 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2008 My daughter's boss organizes trips to Costa Rica and is looking for something better than phone cards or a Satelite phone. I suggested he look at a world phone (GSM) I am using one from MOBAL - HOWEVER, Costa Rica is one of the few countries MOBAL says they will not work in. Something about roaming agreerments. The literature I see says Costa Rica does use GSM - any thoughts on a solution - or would an unlocked GSM phone and buy a sim card down there??? Thanx in advance
mrcamp Posted February 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Costa Rica happens to be a difficult one. I believ the telecom is controlled by the govt. and and roaming agreements are just difficult. Even globalsims that say they have roaming agreement tend not to work. If they do work, they are not cheap. These global sims (and probably a lot of others) all claim they work there. The first 2 give you a US number. http://maxroam.com/how-much-does-it-cost.asp http://www.yackiemobile.com/tools/rates http://www.united-mobile.com/cms/website/index.php?lang=2&idcatside=37&sid=720e4c42db9071a64a38ea1307d6e184 My daughter's boss organizes trips to Costa Rica and is looking for something better than phone cards or a Satelite phone.
