jgiczewski Posted February 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2008 I fear cruising in december for 3 reasons. 1) flights out of chicago most like will be cancelled 2) too many kids 3) the cost increase. However DH really want to start cruising and we are in need of a cruise sometime either the week before or the week after christmas. (That is when he has off of class) Any suggestions on itineraries? johnaricka Posted February 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2008 We too want to cruise at that time of year. For us, our kids are off for three weeks. Wont cruise for Christmas since kids are against it but are looking at options for New Years. We have narrowed it down to the Freedom of the Seas, Voyager or Mariner. Prices for Voyager and Mariner are half the cost of Freedom (or Independence which was our first choice but way too much money). We have cruised when the kid population is at the highest and it wasnt a problem. Kids are too busy to be in your way. If you are worried about flight cancellations, you might want to fly out a day or two early. Flights never seem to be canceled in LA so we dont have that problem. Let us know what you choose! WinnieinWA Posted February 12, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2008 1. Fly in the day early.. we got hung up in Chicago and were so happy we were a day ahead of sailing. Get a hotel by the airport. They have free shuttles to and from. 2. The week before Christmas is much cheaper! That's when I go. VERY FEW children that week. 3. Kids are not all out of school during that week before but watch out for Christmas week as the ship will be loaded with kids and that week will be very expensive!. Happy Cruising! f7prez Posted February 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2008 Weeks before Christmas are some of the lowest rates of the year. And ALWAYS fly in the day before. Try Serenade of the Seas out of San Juan. Gorgeous ship, fantastic itinerary December 13.

Frankiesmom Posted February 13, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 13, 2008 I was just about to suggest the Serenade from San Juan-just booked this today for march '09. The ports look amazing and san juan is really beautiful and fun! Good luck with whatever you decide!
