VoyageVirgin Posted February 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2008 I really don't want to have to use it - however, just in case. Does anyone know if the irons in the self serve laundry are steam or just regular? Thanks very much M
Sally Forth Posted February 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2008 They looked like regular irons but didn't seem to be as hot as regular ones. I watched two women ironing and they seemed to be doing just fine but my mom didn't think they got hot enough. Viv

Does anyone know if the irons in the self serve laundry are steam or just regular? Thanks very much M SPOKE TO NCL DIRECTLY YESTERDAY AFTER SOME CONFUSION ON THE ROLL CALL THREADS. THE REP STATED THAT THE LAUNDRY ROOMS WILL NOT BE ON THE JADE. THAT THEY ARE BEING REMOVED DURING THE CHANGE FROM POH TO JADE. SOUNDS NUTS BUT SHE INSISTED, NO LAUNDRY ROOM ON THE JADE. exarche02 Posted February 13, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2008 What?!?!? Why would they remove the laundry rooms? Don't most NCL ships have laundry rooms?
GROOVERS Posted February 13, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2008 I have never seen a laundry room on an NCL ship...
VoyageVirgin Posted February 13, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted February 13, 2008 Thank you all for the info - Hard to believe they are removing the self serve laundry - but maybe they want to replace the cabins they're taking out to make room for the casino? Oh well, guess I won't have to iron after all. Hopefully, they'll have two laundy specials during the 13 days. :D Always iron before leaving - but things do get a bit cramped up in the suitcase. I do have the Downy (don't care for it) wrinkle out - as well as the steamer - but was really hoping that the self serve laundry was available - The Sun and the Spirit don't have them but the POH showed one - so I'll be sure to confirm that once we get back. NCL REP MENTIONED THAT JADE WILL THE ONLY JEWEL CLASS WITHOUT A SS LAUNDRY. IT BOGGLES MY MIND, AS I AM LEAVING FOR A 13 DAY CRUISE ON SATURDAY.. electricron Posted February 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2008 Don't most NCL ships have laundry rooms? Actually, no. Only the Dawn, Jewel, Pride of Hawaii (soon to be the Jade), Pearl, and Gem have/had self service laundrymats. That's just FIVE ships. NCL has a fleet of TWELVE ships. Therefore, the Majesty, Dream, Aloha, America, Sun, Star, and Spirit don't have them, and apparently neither will the Jade if what I've read in this thread is true. So the number of NCL ships with self service laundrymats may drop to FOUR. Personally, I'll believe this rumor if and when more than one passenger reports they are gone.
Sally Forth Posted February 14, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2008 Interesting. I wonder what they'll put there. On Deck 10, they had a couple of crew offices in a similar location, (same as inside cabins) so maybe they'll do something like that. Viv
Apalmetto Posted February 14, 2008 #10 Share Posted February 14, 2008 2/13/08 I found it hard to believe that NCL would remove the laundry rooms on an existing ship. Certainly it would be one area where they would receive positive comments on the critique sheets at the end of the cruise. Since I will be on the Jade in April, I needed to know for certain so I called NCL tonight and was told that the laundry rooms have already been removed. They gave no reason for this decision. It must have been a cost savings to take them out. Since they did not charge to use the washers/dryers it was no benefit to them to keep it open. Now they can push the laundry service which is profitable. Just another way to get their hand in your pocket.
katmash Posted February 14, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 14, 2008 They will probably take the critique sheets at the end the cruise away, too. Dang it, with no casino and now no laundry room, we won't have anything to put our quarters in next week. :D
VoyageVirgin Posted February 14, 2008 Author #12 Share Posted February 14, 2008 A person from our rollcall called and asked about the laundry - they were told there will be 3 self serve laundry rooms - so I guess we'll have to check it out when we get there - not that I'm doubting what anyone else has posted that they had been told - I'm just rather getting used to conflicting information coming out of the NCL offices. Could be they are looking at taking them out once the ship hits drydock in Europe? We have also been told there will be a "small" casino area with slots (limited number) and blackjack I think available for the sailing - could be done in LA or Miami not sure. I'm sure the group on the repositioning from LA to Miami will post once they get back. I realize the laundry is not necessarily a "need" but I know that casino is in many cruisers "need" list. :)
