Redeeming RCI VISA Points?

Recommended Posts

I have 50,000 points but want to redeem for $$ (500) off a cruise...after I request my cert, where do I send? I am booking with a TA.

There is an address on the back of the certificate of where to send it AFTER you have made copies.

Does anyone know the terms and conditions of what you can and can not use the RCCI Visa OBC for? I assume it's good for the usual stuff like excursions, drinks, spa, shops, etc. and you can NOT apply it to cash/chips you buy at the casino.

Specifically, can you use it to pre-pay tips?

Thanks,

-Dan

OBC goes on your seapass account, and in my experience, was deducted from charges made onboard. We "pre-pay" our tips once onboard for room attendant and dining room staff by voucher. So, yes we did pay using OBC. We also happened to get cash from the casino. For example, if we charged a total of $800, and had OBC of $400, after deduction, our final bill was $400. Technically, the OBC may have been deducted from certain charges, but I'm not sure.

I just called mine in today. I was told to photo copy front and back and put it in the mail after I gave them my certificate number. She said to check back with them in about 2 weeks to see that it was credited. I'm a b2b cruiser and can't access my billing information on their website.

Anyhoo, here's the address:

I sent in my 55,000 points on Tuesday for $550 OBC. I checked my return receipt number online yesterday and it was listed as "Received". I will check in another week to be sure it was all credited.

My only concern is that of being able to use it for our tips. I always have my tips placed on my onboard account and I was assuming that the OBC will just be deducted off the total. While I usually have my one foo-foo drink a day, DH sticks to soda. We aren't big shoppers or gamblers. And we probably won't use Spa services. So if tipping is not included in the OBC deductions I will have to wait to book my last two shore excursions onboard. I usually like to get those booked and out of the way prior to the cruise. I just want to really make sure that tipping would be included!;)

When you do receive your certificates, (can take 2 to 4 wks) not only should you make copies of the front and back (showing what you selected OBC or such on the back)...But, what was not mentioned is: send it to the Kansas address on the certificate and ALWAYS send "Return Receipt Requested". C&A told me to always do this.

I sent mine certified return receipt through the US Post Office and it was never delivered poof, vanished. Worse part is they have a tracking number but no tracking system between here and there!!! It shows "purchased" when you turn it over at the post office, then there is no tracking until it is attempted to be delivered to RCCL in Wichita. (Mine showed purchased but nothing after that)

Fedex ground is the same price as US Post Office certified return receipt BUT you can watch your envelopes every move from "here to there" plus view the signature online once it has been delivered.;)

I've used the Visa award points for OBC several times and I take it at 25,000 so 250.00 OBC. I do not bother getting the certificate number, I just call the number on back of card, get the certificate in less then 10 days, fill out the back and check OBC and mail it to the C & A address AFTER I take a copy of it. I call C & A about a week later to be sure it was applied and I always bring the copy of it with me onboard in case there is ever a question. I do the same thing with shareholders statement just in case but I've never had an issue with either one. I use that Visa card for everything, pay it in full each month and the points really add up quick. Love that card! :D

Do you pay your bills with it? I use it to pay my Tmobile and Comcast bills. You are right about the points adding up too. I've got 200 dollars worth of obc....I'll end up using a lot of it in the spa because my lady wants a couples massage....I'd rather spend it on blender drinks, but I want my baby to love her first cruise.

We are redeeming $550 OBC for our June B2B. Our final seapass bill is always relatively low because all that is on there is alcohol.

My question is, if we do not use up the entire credit, will we lose it? Or would it be put back onto the visa (the CC that would be on file), like a return or a credit? If not, we'll just take the money out of the casino, but we'd rather know a definite answer so we can divide the OBC between the 2 weeks if need be.

We have to use it all now because this is our last hoorah before kiddos, or else I just would not get so much OBC and would save it for next time. Thanks in advance.

Does the certificate have a name on it? If not, can you give your points away to someone else (I know, the horror!) I have a friend who opened the card to get the 15,000 points and will probably not be able to go on the cruise with us. Could she give the voucher to someone else to use?

Just bumping this up to see if anyone knows the answer to this. If she doesn't go on the cruise, it's likely she'll just cancel the card. But she doesn't want to give up the valuable points, if someone can use them.

sr4mjc,

I JUST received my certificate in the mail so now I can answer your question.

Yes, the card holder's name and address are on the front of the certificate BUT on the back there is space to fill in the Guest Name of the person going on the cruise and a section that says: "If Guest Name is different than the name on the front of this coupon, please provide the following information:" and then there are spaces to fill in the Name, Date of Birth, and address of the guest.

So from my reading it, the certificate is yours to do with as you please. Use it for yourself or use it as a gift to someone else who is going on an RCI cruise.

Hope that helps.

-Dan

Be VERY careful. When you request your cert...it may not be returnable, exchangeable or transferable. Also, many of the certs can't be used if going through a TA. You need to book directly through RCCL. I had a very lengthy posting recently because I had a problem with some certs. I got from some credit card points. It was a nightmare. I almost got stuck with $800.00. Find out exactly what your terms and conditions are before you get the certs. It is very important!

I booked through a TA and when I called in my certificates he noted my sailing and just told me to send them in. I do not see anything that says you have to book through RCI for the VISA Certificates. I will be call ing next week to see if everything is in order. This is the first I have heard of such a problem. Are you sure it is the BOA RCI VISA card that you are talking about?
