Canadian credit card

Is it better to have your on board account credit card charged in canadian funds or left in U.S.

Definately leave is US funds so you get your standard credit card conversion rate of around 2-3%. Otherwise I hear horror stories on this board about astronomical conversion rates used by celebrity to bill in your prefered currency. ***Watch your cruise documents closely*** - there is a small box you have to check to make sure it is billed in US Funds otherwise it will default to converting it for you and you'll have a surprise when your bill comes!

Definitely have them charge in US$ ... the exchange rate the credit card uses is less than the cruise line's. When you check in at boarding be sure to point out that you've checked the box indicating you want your credit card charged with the ship's currency (i.e. US$).

There have been MANY posts about this issue. Even if you do check the box, highlight, underline in red etc they STILL often convert the charges to CDN and charge that as a USD amount to your credit card where you will pay the bank rate before you get your bill! I think it's called gouging!!

Some posters suggest that you go to guest services, settle your bill on the last night in US cash or have them swipe your credit card right in front of you.

It seems to be a money making scheme for Celebrity - that's why we always ask for the USD price for a cruise before we book - it saves $100's of dollars!
