Warmer Climes Posted March 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2008 Hi, We just got back Sunday from our cruise which included a day in Ochos Rios. We went riding with Hooves, and we agreed that it was the highlight of our cruise! There are five of us- two adults, two 17 y.o.'s and a 9 y.o. The driver picks you up at the pier and drives you about 20 minutes out of town. You then get an orientation about riding (we are all inexperienced riders) and then two guides went with us. So it was just our group with two guides. One rode in front with my 9 y.o. behind him. The other brought up the rear. As we rode down a long trail, the guides showed us plants and talked about the history of the property, which was actually visited by Columbus and occupied by the Spanish and English at various times. The guides were very friendly and very knowledgeable. Then we got to the beach, changed into swimsuits and rode the horses in the water. After we changed back into our clothes it was back to where we started and then the driver took us back to the pier (we tipped him $10 each way but the ride is included in the price of the tour, which was $336 for four adults and one child (20% off). We bought a CD of pictures of us getting on the horses and riding for $15 and we tipped each guide $20. We felt that they were very safety-conscious and fun, and we will definitely ride with Hooves if we go back to Jamaica. I booked online- hoovesjamaica.
