luv2cruise08 Posted February 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2008 We will be in port 2pm-midnight we would like to see the rainforest. I know it closes at 6. Has anyone done this before? How much was the ride to the rainforest? Is it better to rent a car? Is an hour or so enough time to walk through it? thanks!
rainforestgirl Posted February 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2008 You can't do a taxi to the rainforest- they aren't allowed all the way up where the trails and you won't be able to get one when you are done. Best bet- rent a car or do a private tour. Try Charlie's Car rental- they will pick you up at the pier and then drop you back when you are done. Usual cost about $40. Private tours usually run that amount per person. It takes a little more than an hr to get to the RF. You will have until about 6pm to do your thing- so about 2 hrs. I would go do the trail you want- say you want to swim in the waterfall- do that first, then on the way down, you will know if you have time to stop at La Coca falls or do the tower etc. I have a written about a few trails: http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/category/rainforest/ For some neat arts and crafts, stop at Coqui's International store at the bottom of the hill. We just went 2 nights ago for a fund raiser and it reminded me of all the cool stuff he has there! On the way back for dinner, stop at Brisas Del Verde for delicious, local food (and it is inexpensive too!). On the corner of RT 3 and RT 186. We eat there all the time and LOVE it! The chicken and carne frita and the Yucca con ajo and the arroz con gandules are all great.
luv2cruise08 Posted February 25, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Excellent advice, thanks! I went to Charlies web site and you can't drop the car off after 5:00 at the pier on Wednesdays. Just my luck I am there on Wed. Oh well we will figure something out.
