Is there better snorkeling in Cozumel or Roatan?

I'm thinking Roatan - had 2 awesome dives there last month. Not been impressed with Coz, but never done a boat dive there. Lots of snorkeling available at Coz, not so much at Roatan.

Oops - I see you were asking about snorkeling, not snorkeling vs. diving. I go with Coz for snorkeling.

Both Coz and Roatan are great. However, snorkeling from shore is much better at Roatan.

My suggestion:

DO BOTH!:D

At Roatan, Anthony's Key Resort is usually the operator booked by the cruise ships. I snorkeled with them April 2007. A good operator and excellent snorkel sites.

I agree with Host Star about Roatan's Tabyana Beach. Tabyana rivals, and is maybe better, than Grand Cayman.

No need to go with of the ship's cattle boat at Coz. There are a number of good independent operators. I've been very happy with Eagle Ray. Another with a good rep is Manta Ray:

I agree you should do both.

At Cozumel we took a trip from Paradise Beach in a tiny boat with a guy named Angel. He knew great spots and was always in the water guiding us.

Tabyana at Roatan is your best bet there. Watch for the snorkel boats to anchor offshore and swim on out. They know the best place there.
