Taxi or private driver to East side of Island?? Need help!!

I will be in Cozumel next month for one day from 7 AM to 4 PM. We are a family of four. I was thinking of taking a ride to see the East side of the island, and then ending up at Chankanaab for the rest of the day. Can someone please give me advice on this: should I just get a cab from the port and ask him to drive us along the East coast, or should I line up a private driver in advance? How much time to allow if we do a full island loop? I just don't have a sense of the size of the island or the roads in Cozumel. THANKS!!!!!

Yea, I'm thinking of renting a car in Cozumel. How much time DOES it take to loop around the island??

I second using Gerry to drive you around but if you want to go it on your own, it does not take more than an hour or so to loop the main drive of Cozumel. There are a ton of photo spots along the way so allow plenty of time to stop. I spent three hours in January and could have spent many more but my gang wanted to shop.
