cruisin0308 Posted February 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2008 Going to Cozumel over Spring break with the family, and I'm looking for the best snorkeling areas to enter from the beach. We're strong swimmers, but wondering about currents, distance, etc. ARe any of the reefs marked? Can we rent snorkeling equipment? What about facilities / restaurants? Any other information would be greatly appreciated.
Jungle Jane Posted February 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2008 try here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=349494 it's a crazy long thread, but you can read the very last 4 or 5 pages of posts to get an idea of whether it's a place you'd like to try or not. Enjoy Coz!

Get the admission discount coupon from http://www.cozumelparks.com/ Close to shore the currents are pretty mild. You can rent gear there. There is a restaurant, rest rooms, and lots more. DonMar Posted February 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2008 Punta Sur is beach entry snokeling. There are floats and markers throughout the snorkelind area. There are small Mayan ruins, a freshwater lagoon (with boat tour to find crocs), a lighthouse you can climb, a small museum, and a beautiful beach with beach chairs, umbrellas and a snack bar at Punta Sur. So once done snorkeling, there are other things to see and do. ($10 pp state park fee) You need to rent a car to get here. It is a very easy drive. BlueJacketsFan1 Posted February 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 29, 2008 My wife and I did the snorkeling at the Punta Sur Eco Park. You entered the water from a very nice beach area. The reef wasn't to far out from the beach. It wasn't marked in any way. We did get equipment there on the beach, but there wasn't any food available. bev0426 Posted March 3, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2008 We have done Chankanaab but the current was quite strong when we were there...also VERY slippery rocks getting in...but there was lots of fish to see once you made it out. The EASIEST snorkelling was at XelHa...super easy and no fear...lots of fish...lots of food and drinks and beach chairs and dolphins and ....everything!! We love Xel Ha.
