Tintown Posted February 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2008 I understand that backpacks, camera bags etc., are not permitted at certain places such as the Acropolis. As we will need to carry bags with us in ports, where do you leave them? Do they provide storage lockers or some similar secure place to leave them? GSPLover Posted February 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 29, 2008 I remember reading about those rules before we arrived in Athens. Didn't give it much thought the day we were there. Read your post and went back and viewed our pics looking specifically at people and bags. Draw your own conclusions. By the way, I did not see a bag check (however people on our excursion could have used the bus.) Pics are at http://picasaweb.google.com/ftroute - see Athens and Acropolis. Tintown Posted February 29, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted February 29, 2008 The photos were very helpful. I noticed a few backpacks among the crowds, so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem. Thank you.

feistytigger Posted February 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 29, 2008 these websites say you have to check your bags: http://www.athensguide.com/acropolis.html http://www.destination360.com/europe/greece/acropolis.php http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080131080826AArbnbK http://www.worldsbestwonders.com/greece_wonders_acropolis.html i also recall reading someone's post about how he had to check his camera bag and just carried his dslr around his neck. photographia Posted February 29, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 29, 2008 We were at the Acropolis last June. Since we took a group tour on a bus, we were able to leave things on the bus. But there definitely was a baggage-check place in the area of the ticket-booths. As for what constitutes a "too big" bag, our tour guide told us that often it can be up to the discretion of the ticket-taker. Sometimes they'll stop someone and oblige them to go check something (we saw this happen); sometimes they'll decide it's small enough and let it go. There's some grey area. But in the interest of time, err on the side of caution as much as you can, and try not to take anything that can't be stuffed in your pockets or hung around your neck! eh2zed Posted February 29, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 29, 2008 Wasn't even aware of a bag policy when we were there in may. I had backpack and no problem.
