Does anyone know if HAL minds someone bringing a small desk top fan with them on board. We use a ceiling fan at home because I stay hot and I've come to enjoy the white noise it puts out. I'm not sure I can go 10 days without cool air blowing on me. So I was wanting to bring my table top fan with me. Know of any problems HAL may have with this?

I'm sure there'd be no problem with using it - you might need an extension cord, depending on what type of cabin you're in, and how close you want the fan to you in bed. I read somewhere, however, that fans sometimes can be provided by your cabin steward if you ask for one.

We took a small box fan on our cruise last year, it was no problem. We asked our cabin steward if he had any use/room for it on our last day, and he said it would be perfect for their "break room," so we left it for him. That gave us some extra luggage space for all the goodies we bought in port too. :)

I, too, run hot. I found our stateroom on the Volendam (Lower Promenade, #3425) to be VERY warm on our cruise last fall. I asked the steward for a fan. He soon appeared with an oscillating fan and a power strip. It kept me happy. (Too bad it wasn't helpful with the cigarette smoke from our nextdoor neighbor! )

Maybe you could call ship services for your ship and ask if they could have one in your room already when you arrive? It would save you space. I don't know about you, but I never seem to have enough space in my suitcase!

Yes, there is a temp control. They generally work alright. The problem is that the a/c runs off ocean water. The colder the water the better it works, conversely, the warmer the water the less efficiently it works.
