Mmm i hope so... we were going to get married in may before our big hawaiian cruise which is our honeymoon... we were just goign to get married at the courthouse before the trip... my parents wouldnt be able to come down then but they are coming down for the 1 day cruise in april.. what an amazing surprise that would be!!

Yeah they do weddings on the ship but they are over priced ... but... im thinking this is a way my parents could be there and it would be a huge surprise... I just wasnt sure if they would do it because its a 1 day cruise because they are repositioning and they dont start the 7 day cruises till the next day... so Im not sure if they would typically do it in that case....

Thanks for the congrats! I'm VERY excited :)

Originally we were going to get married on the beach in hawaii but it started getting expensive and the timing just wasnt working and I was getting stressed so I said you know what, its just the two of us there anyway so why dont we just get married at the courthouse in our hometown before we leave on the vacation rather than get stressed over timing etc...

But now I started thinking... even though its over priced... how great would it be to totally surprise my parents and get married on the 1 day cruise... ohhhhhhhhh i HOPE they say yes when I call them in the morning... I'll get over the fact that I feel its over priced!

One-day cruises are cheap.

Take your own officiant onboard with you (add them as a 3rd passenger). Have them conduct your ceremony somewhere on the ship alongside your parents and once everything has been done, escort the officiant off the ship (about an hour before departure).

We were married on a 1-day cruise and this is what we did. It worked out really well and we were able to have our wedding our way, not some overpriced cruise-line packaged deal.

Well, after I called TWE and asked if they could do it, they said yes.. but the price is 1350 plus a 250 late fee because we are inside the 45 day booking time frame... she said they allow 3 weddings for that particular sailing and only one is booked... so... we go through the whole thing, I give them all our info... spend time talking about how nice it is that im gonna surprise my folks and all this nonsense... and then she says "Ooops... " she says the wedding that is already booked has over 150 guests and therefore they decided they can only do one wedding that day... I spoke with the supervisor,.... we are only 4 people total.. and she said no go... they are already stretched to the limit... blah... I asked my wonderful TA if she could please call and see if she can have any luck...

We had always planned to do the courthouse, but the courthouse isnt open on the weekend and my parents can only come down on the saturday morning... so its not an option... well, my TA is gonna try to see if they would do a vow renewal ceremony instead of a wedding, we could get married at the courthouse on Friday and then have the little cake cutting vow ceremony on the ship on Saturday... its a lot cheaper too but I would still rather do the wedding...

Well, TWE wont budge, they wont do a wedding OR a vow ceremony because this other couple has over 150 guests and they cant squeeze in an extra ceremony for 4 people... great.. oh well.. I guess its my own fault for waiting so long to think of it...

Hi LegalCat and a big CONGRATS to you!!!!!!! :D

May I suggest that you hire a justice of the peace to do the ceremony at your home/his home just prior to boarding?? That would work...

Also, the justice of the peace (or other officiant) or you could maybe find someplace close to the pier, such as a public park/garden, where you could have a nice ceremony......

Just suggestions.....

I thought about getting someone to do it close to the pier in a park or some thing but my H2B says no way.. downtown Miami isnt the prettiest place, we work and live in the area and sorry but the park is disgusting with all the bums and stuff :(... so... not gonna work... and the timing is just too short to go to miami beach to do it... my parents have such limited time they are literally meeting us at the port and on we board... i dont know.. i guess i just had my hopes up about doing it on the ship and then they said YES and took all my information and confirmed they could do 3 weddings and only had 1 booked and said it was all good to go and I was all excited and they took all our information and then at the end she says "oops...." ... so I'm just bummed out now and feeling very disappointed ... later I will get over it and maybe I can work some thing else out...

Sorry that they did this to you....I remember planning for my wedding last year....the stress is awful.

I don't know what any "rules" are; but if you knew an officiant and would be willing to pay for them to cruise (letting them know it wouldn't be a great cabin, but a nice weekend), would they be able/willing to marry you quietly aboard (as a previous poster mentioned) and take the one-nighter as their compensation??

I think if it is legal for them to marry if the ship is at the pier (which it is in NY and seems to be in Miami as well), then they may go for it. I know our Pastor would have loved that option! :D Granted, not a whole lot of "hoopla", but I think it could be lovely.....

Yeah I might look into that... we could always bring on a bottle of champagne and get a little cake on the ship and have a little cake cutting and stuff... it might be the way to go ill have to see if I can find someone who would do it...

Any volunteers? LOL

I know there are services that put you in touch with people who can officiate and offer a variety of types (relgious or secular). I'm certain Miami has these advertisements too. Many major bridal magazines have them and have areas on their websites that provide local information.

I wish you all the best on this.

You see, we got engaged on the Dawn and wanted to get married on the ship as well. We actually picked the sailing date first, and then tried to work out the marriage ceremony. Unfortunately, in NYC, even on longer sailings (which we were on), they cannot accomodate a "sit down" luncheon - only a cocktail type (with some food items). It wouldn't have worked due to the ages of family members, so we had to marry a day early.

I truly hope you manage to do this!

Best of luck to you and your soon-to-be DH! :)

I was thinking along the same lines as Frick & Frack. You could pay for an officiant's cabin and still have $ leftover compared to the ship's price for a wedding. You could even give the person a small stipend and have enough left for your small group to celebrate at Le Bistro.

You would make a reservation for your dinner party as soon as you get on the ship and tell them at that time you're celebrating your wedding.

Then if you let the restaurant mgr or Maitre d' of Le Bistro know you're celebrating a wedding (who may or may not have gotten the word from the rsvn clerk), I'm sure they could arrange to have a cake brought out for you and your party. Heck, maybe the officiant would like to join.;):D

Even with the restaurant surchgs and some libations thrown in, you might still come out ahead.:)

What a surprise for your parents!

yeah Im thinking this is a great idea... there are cabins left... my TA checked and said I can get a cabin for just over 300 for two people... the second person could help take pictures etc... even if they didnt wanna have dinner with us... really it would only take like an hour.. do the short ceremony takes some pics etc.. this could actually work...

You mentioned going to Hawaii... we got married there in 08/2005 and it was easy and memorable. We wanted a place that was different, no church, no friends, no family, no kids, just us and something natural.

We found a guy named Captain Howie who does a lot of weddings (and sailing excursions.) The folks in the Honolulu marraige license office know him well.

We got married on a beach by a bald guy with no shirt who blew into a conch shell. I would do it again in a heartbeat! It was reasonably priced as well. Howie also takes the wedding photos if you want them, and he contracts with a videographer if you want a video.
