Where to stay in Miami?

We will be flying to Ft Lauderdale and driving to Miami where we will need to spend the night. We would prefer to be near the port so we dont have too far to go. Any suggestions. I dont want to drop a lot, but I dont want to stay in a hole either. Thanks!

I always get a room in downtown Miami on Priceline for $35 - $50.

We have stayed twice at the Sheraton Biscayne, this is the hotel Carnival uses if you book with them. It was nice in the morning before heading to the ship they had someone in the lobby to register you for the ship. When we got to the pier we got to by-pass the line and just go and get S-N-S cards. It's also close to a nice shopping area (about a 2-3 block walk).

Holiday Inn across Biscayne Blvd. from the Bayside Marketplace is a thought!

And, the entertainment and shopping at Bayside is great!

And close enough to the pier! NOT walking distance, but not bad... :D
