Smoking Policy on Carnival

God, I love the smell of cigar smoke. And i'm not a smoker lol. Different strokes!

What you fail to mention is that on some ships, such as the Carnival Glory, the cigar bar is right outside the main dining room and runs the entire indoor width of the ship. It's where people wind up standing while waiting for the doors to open for dinner. It's in the direct path to the theater after dinner. In short, it's a stupid place to allow cigar smoking, and people comment on that. If cigar smokers were truly "considerate" of nonsmokers, as they all claim to be, they would be aware of that and would avoid smoking there around dinner time.

Sounds like a really bad design flaw on the part of Carnival. Seems like the nice thing to do would be to perhaps ask smokers to refrain from smoking 15 minutes before dinner time. Those of you who claim to be polite smokers certainly wouldn't want to offend non smokers by asking them to stand in a smoke filled room, would you? It's a simple matter of courtesy.

Hey, ive got a great idea! Why dont all you people who dont smoke stop going on cruises or at least on the ones where smoking is allowed. The last time I checked smoking is permitted by the cruiselines on the balcony, in the casinos, on the decks on the correct smoking side of the ship and in some bar and lounges. When I smoke where the cruiseline says I can smoke I am doing NOTHING wrong especially in a CIGAR bar and will continue to smoke in these areas. If it is that awful why are you submitting yourself to something so dangerous when there are vacations or cruiselines that do not allow smoking to go on. This way we will all be happy, its that simple.

No, I'm not kidding. Smokers can either insist on smoking whenever and wherever the law allows or they can claim to be considerate of nonsmokers. They cannot, with a shred of credibility, do both.

If the non smokers stopped going on cruises, there would be NO CRUISES left for you smokers to go on, because only about 30% of the public smokes, and I don't think those numbers would be enough to sustain a cruiseline! DUH! Let's face it, smoking is disgusting, and when you are in an enclosed area, there is no way to do it without endangering others. Plain and simple. It's something that you have complete control over, so to do so around non smokers is just plain discourteous...I don't care if it's legal, that doesn't make it right.:mad:

What the non-smokers fail to mention is the fact that there are other ways to get to the dining room on the Glory, other than directly thru the cigar bar. They may not be the most convenient ways, but there are other routes. When I am getting ready to sit down to a two hour long meal, I like to have a cigarette and cocktail before dining. If it is so offensive, find a different route.

70% of the criuse passengers produce only 30% of the ship's on-board revenues... and 30% of the passengers produce 70% of the ship's on-board revenues... :D

So let me see if I have this right. Smokers can't smoke in permitted enclosed areas because you think it's disgusting and they're endangering others. They move smokers to the balconies and outer decks (obviously not enclosed) and you (general you) complain about that too.

 

Sorry to be blunt, but you don't get it both ways. The non-smoking zealots constantly preach about the courtesy they feel they should be afforded by smokers towards them; about the consideration they think they deserve. You usually don't get much in the way of courtesy and consideration when you attempt to paint someone into a corner.

 

Yes, I see you believe that it can be legal, but not right. It's also not right to expect smokers on a ship to bow down to your every desire, especially when they're on their own "turf". This puts me in mind of my two youngest kids when they're fighting over toys. They never want to share or each take one different toy. They have to have them BOTH.

I wasn't complaining about smokers. You won't find a single post of mine complaining about smoke wafting onto my balcony because it's never bothered me that much. (And I've booked a lot of aft balconies, which you would think would be the most affected). I was merely commenting on people who claim to be considerate of nonsmokers, but when it is suggested that they do anything more than the bare minimum of following the rules, find the idea ridiculous.

 

I believe that being considerate requires more than just not being a rulebreaker. You may disagree. Maybe we should have a poll on the subject. "Does being a considerate smoker mean anything more than not breaking the rules?"

YES you were complaining about smokers and complaining when the smokers were doing the right thing. I didn't clean anything up. I expanded an incomplete thought. I haven't contradicted myself at all. If you think you can find someplace I've contradicted myself, I'd think you'd quote it. I do like your idea of my being inconsiderate by having wrong thoughts, though.

You clearly have stated that a smoker is being inconsiderate even though they are following the rules of smoking where they are allowed to do so (in the Cigar Bar on Glory). Those smokers haven't broken or advocated breaking any rules; and by your own statement, you haven't broken any rules either and that makes you considerate. But yet you say you are considerate for that same reason and the smokers are not? :confused:

 

Considerate smoker: A considerate smoker does not smoke where smoking is not allowed out of respect for the rules and those who choose not to smoke. If a neighbor on a nearby balcony POLITELY says the smoke is bothering them, they reach a compromise with that person. A considerate smoker does not throw butts (lit or not) into the ocean, over a railing, on the ground, out the car window, etc... I've been a victim of a tossed lit cigarette before so the improper disposal issue really sets me off! ;)

 

PS- Thank you for what you do. Firefighters are a vital part of any community and I respect the work that you and your comrades perform keeping us safe. My best friend is a volunteer firefighter and I know how hard he works for little or no tangible reward.
