Smoking Policy on Carnival

I agree

it is changing and i am not so sure for the better.. NOT even talking about the smoking/nonsmoking

Its just not what it was ..lets say 5yrs ago.. maybe because goods and services are just becoming so expensive.. but i have a feeling cruising for me will end when there is no place to smoke... pathetic maybe, but its my right too..hello i pay taxes.. lol

anyway these two sides will never meet... both have valid arguments..

i am the type of smoker that thinks of others.. perhaps if all smokers did it would have been such a big issue...

I do not believe it will ever not be a big issue as what would the complainers have to complain about

I smoke and do consider others when I do...I do not smoke in non-smoking areas...I care if my smoking bothers others...I use ashtrays

ok I have no children...should I start complaining about how kids run wild unsupervised...should I complain about people who do not drink...what about people who eat on line at the buffett...should we complain about the towel placing chair hogs...how about all the complainers stay home so I can sit on my balcony with a drink, smoke and a deli sandwich and enjoy my cruise and get a nice chair by the pool!!!!

Happy cruising!!

I live in Illinois...as of January 1, 2008, it is illegal to smoke in ANY building in Illinois...other than your residence and I believe, some hotel rooms. All businesses are smoke free. Having moved here from California in 2001, we were dismayed when the first time we went out to dinner, we were asked, "smoking or non smoking"? California had placed the statewide ban in 2000. All the smokers and whiners said it would be the end of the restaurant and bar business in California, and for about 6 weeks, business went down about 20%. After that, I guess either the smokers gave in, or that many more non smokers decided to come out, cuz profits came back up! Now in Illinois, the same argument was waged. January saw a slight decline in profits from bars, but here we are in March and all is good! It's a wonderful thing!!:D

Look on the bright side, if the ship starts to sink, we will make to the lifeboats first. Smokers will either be out of breath or stopping for a smoke. :D

I think the smokers will get there first...after all they are already outside having a smoke!

You have just made my point. You claim to be a smoker who "thinks of others" but previously on this same thread (post #60) you said that the suggestion that nonsmokers be considerate and do anything beyond what the ship requires was the "the funniest post yet" http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=732850&page=3

This is a dead issue i'm afraid.

These two factions will never come to an agreement.

I think everyone is either overreacting or completely paranoid. All these people continue to complain that they're gonna DIE! if they smell some smoke. Give your bodies some credit. Humans aren't that frail. You can take it, trust me. Your bodies are capable of tremendous things. So, please stop all the fake coughs and gags. It is considered very rude, especially when the smokers are trying to be respectful of the non-smokers.

And another thing for the record. Not all smokers are nicotine fiends, some of us still just smoke because we enjoy it. Those who do enjoy it are not in denial in any way.

For example: Say you've been on 50 cruises. Alot of people would say "you're addicted to cruising". You reply with "I'm not addicted, I just enjoy it alot". Does this mean you're in denial? or does it mean that you actually enjoy it?

I guess there's a very thin line between enjoyment and denial.

A bit more than 2 cents, but someone has to speak up for the other party.

Please don't take any offense. I am a very respectful smoker and will do my best to keep it from bothering others.:)

My son, who is in Phila. at law school, bought one of these and has used it in classes and at bars. He took a puff off it in our kitchen a few days ao and there's no smoke, just steam. I don't believe the businesses in VT are ready to see someone puffing on one of these.

You are kidding right? Comparing cruising addiction to nicotine addiction:confused:

If you smoke and are not addicted to nicatin you are in a very very very small minority. Everybody starts out being not addicted. Good Luck!

Granted, it was a poor analogy. I wasn't comparing anything except the difference between enjoyment and denial, and how a person would determine if they are one or the other.

So, yes. I guess I was kidding:o :)

I'm not trying to start any debates or arguments. To be honest, I am just too excited about my first cruise to be in an argument of any kind. I really need a vacation. It's been so long and so stressful.

I hope everyone on board is as happy as I am just to be there on the ship!!!

Take care everyone and smooth sailing!!!!

There should be a cruise ship called "Denial" for all the smokers bringing up perfume, cologne, peanuts, etc in comparison to cigarette smoke.

I'm sure it would be booked solid!

Couldn't agree more. And it's a good thing all those smokers are repelled by perfumes or cologne. Smelling like cigarette smoke and perfume is doubly gagging  I get tired of hearing how 'other' things are equal to or worse than the smell of smoke. There is just no equivalence. But I guess drug addicits will grasp at desperate straws to defend their addiction.

Smoking is allowed in cabins. They clean them so well, you can't smell it.

Smoking is allowed on the Lido deck on the starboard side or "the side the bar is on". There were tables next to the windows that you could sit at and smoke while on the lido.

One more comment, then I am done with the smoking war.

I have known firemen that never smoked a day in their life but died of cancer! What do you think they inhale everytime they go and fight fires? Yes, it stinks and it is not healthy but there are far more things in our food and air that the gov't is not going to admit to.

As an ex-smoker I really don't mind cigarette smoke one way or another, but prefer smoke-free, but that's okay. However, cigars, a different matter. In our apartment a cigar smoker lives two floors above us and when he's out on his balcony and so are we his smoke circles the building. Amazing. I can take it for about 5 minutes before I have to go back in. I hate to crab about things but cigars are just really too strong to smoke out on ship balconys. That of course being said from a non-cigar smoker. I think the next time I get hit with cigar smoke wafting across the ship balcony out comes the Glade spray!

God, I love the smell of cigar smoke. And i'm not a smoker lol. Different strokes!

In short, it's a stupid place to allow cigar smoking, and people comment on that. If cigar smokers were truly "considerate" of nonsmokers, as they all claim to be, they would be aware of that and would avoid smoking there around dinner time.

That is the funniest post yet

You want smokers, who have right to smoke in an enclosed cigar bar to cease smoking during your meal time?

Get there a minute or two late so YOU do not have to stand on line to EAt and not smell the cigar bar..

What a joke

__________________

You are refering to the above post, yes?

Your argument is off. The cigar smokers are smoking where Carnival tells them to in an enclosed area designed for cigar smoking. You want them to stop while you wait on line to eat..

Your argument is with Carnival not with me or someone in the cigar bar.

If you reread my postings, i have said i am considerate of nonsmokers. If all smokers were, it may not be such a big deal... But the cigar smokers did not place the cigar bar where it is, Carnival did

If you feel you discovered some vice that dwells inside of me that only you can perceive from a post.. than i say you are mightly talented.
