Juneau Car Rental

Thanks for all the information for the car rental.

 

We will arrive in the mid of June around 8am in the morning. We are a group of 7 with some kids in the ages around 10.

 

How long does it take to get the rental minivan?

 

I am thinking to take the shuttle alone 8am, do the car rental and come back to pick up the kids. What's the time should I ask them to wait at the port? Will the rental offcie crowded like the airport?

 

If my ATT cellular phone can work at the ship while at the port, that will solve my problem, then.

 

Any suggestion?

Your cellphone should work. Just be sure that you see your network on your phone and not the ship's network so that you avoid paying the ship's high fees. I made sure that I was on the side of the ship next to land when I used my phone in Juneau and had no problems. You can email or call the rental company before the cruise to give them an estimated time (we've called several times). Then call them when you are in port and have them pick you up. They won't come until you call. You will have to take the driver back to the rental car agency and drop him/her off and do the paperwork. I think we are going to drop off the car in a parking lot in downtown to save the trip back to the agency in the afternoon. That might depend on when we run out of steam too. :) We will be there on June 3rd so if we have time I will let people know how it went. We won't be home until June 14th though.
