PennyAgain Posted March 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2008 I'm going to be in Halifax in early May for a business meeting and will have time on my own. Can I get to Pier 21 on foot from a hotel on Upper Water Street? Also any suggestions for how to spend time in this wonderful museum? Thank you! This is the web page for Pier 21.....http://www.pier21.ca/ Its not that far a walk. Done it many times maybe 15 minutes or less. Lot's to see as you stroll along. Stay out of the Casino unless you feel lucky. Ed

I couldn't tell if there was a major road in the way of the walk. A US city would likely have a freeway in an area like that.
MonaCD Posted March 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2008 I walked it in pourinf, freezing rain and wind in january. It wasn't a pleasant walk but worth it. You must be sure to take in the 4D movie they have it's not only a good story but one of the very few 4D movie theatres in the world.

rickb Posted March 25, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2008 Does Carnival Victory dock around Pier 21? The cruise ships actually arrive right at Pier 21. You won't even have to go outside!
Gingee Posted March 26, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Wow so there is stuff to do right there? Sounds good.
rickb Posted March 26, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Wow so there is stuff to do right there? Sounds good. Depending on what you have in mind, you could simply hang out there. There is also a very long boardwalk to your right when you exit the building. Just stroll along it and you will find lots of shops, restaurants, museums, etc.

Thanks Yes, it would be about a 10 minute walk down the boardwalk. There are a couple of tours there and you can't miss them.

PennyAgain Posted May 5, 2008 Author #15 Share Posted May 5, 2008 Thanks to all who helped me work out the details. I loved it so much I returned the next day to spend more time there and to see the movie again. Absolutely outstanding museum!
jerin Posted May 5, 2008 #16 Share Posted May 5, 2008 Thanks to all who helped me work out the details. I loved it so much I returned the next day to spend more time there and to see the movie again. Absolutely outstanding museum! Good to know. Coming in on a cruise ship, we won't get to do everything. I'll definitely put it on our list for next month for a rainy day or if I'm not up for much walking, or if we just have some extra time.
PennyAgain Posted May 5, 2008 Author #17 Share Posted May 5, 2008 You actually dock at Pier 21 so it is very handy for cruise passengers. I forget what it cost (I got the senior price) but it is worth it. There is a little refreshment shop and a gift shop which is very nice. The place where you do the historical research is in the same area of the building. I believe you can visit the gift shop without buying a ticket to get in the exhibits. I loved it so much I returned the next day to spend more time there and to see the movie again. Absolutely outstanding museum! I'm glad you enjoyed it, it is a real gem. I went with a friend from Australia who had relatives that emigrated to Canada through Pier 21. The admission is $8.50 for adults and 7.50 for seniors, well worth it. https://www.pier21.ca/planningyourvisit/hours-of-operation/
