Healies on Cruise Ships

Recommended Posts

We're taking our kids on a cruise in a few weeks and my oldest son just asked if he could bring his healies. I don't remember ever seeing anyone on a cruise wearing them before (and personally I think they'd be pretty annoying) but I said I'd ask here about them.

Healies are they tennis shoes with built-in little rollers in the heals. It allows kids to roll a bit as they walk. At the least, I'm sure they can wear them whenever we're off the ship.

No Skates allowed onboard. Also not a good topic to start out the week. :D Popcorn please.

People have a hard time walking in their own shoes while onboard due to the floor being slippery in many places especially up on Lido. If you do bring them, make sure you buy insurance. Medical bills onboard are costly.

They aren't allowed, aside from the fact that they are dangerous, especially on a cruise ship. And that goes for the grocery store and mall too :p (not that he does it, just a pet peeve of mine lately, LOL) So many kids are getting hurt on those, hopefully he will be very careful.. but leave them at home for your cruise. Have a great time!

I've seen kids using these on board several times. I don't have kids of my own, so I didn't realize they weren't allowed. The rule certainly hasn't been enforced in my experience. And yes, it is kind of annoying to have kids zooming around traffic on those things when it's already crowded.

I also vote no!

Imagine if he got hurt when the ship rocks or if he accidently hit someone? Or even slipped overboard?

And in port, I don't think they would be a good idea either, many of the streets and sidewalks are very rough. The only place I even saw where any sort of skate would be fun was on the "boardwalk" in st Maarten. It is pretty freshly paved, and very wide.
