Question about Tariffs

on my last cruise we were told that you could buy 2 bottles of liquor each with no problem, but if you bought more you would have to pay a small fee at customs when you got off. we actually bought 4 bottles each so we expected to pay a little when we got off but when we got to customs they asked how many bottles we bought and we told them 8. they looked at our declaration card and said ok have a nice day. and did not make us pay? i am not complaing about not paying but i am curious as to why we did not have to pay.

I have to agree depends on the agent you have at that time!!! And being honest helps as well;)

Even eight bottles is not worth the time spent to collect the tariff. Now if you had eight cases I am sure you would have paid.

it just seems strange that they randomly pick who and what to charge. our wonderful government never shys away from taking money from us for anything else if they can get away with it.

My Sister had to pay the fee for 2 extra cartons of cigarettes. I think it was about 10 bucks. Still a big savings.
