Which beach?

I will be cruising the Carnival Glory in a week with a group of 5 others all on a tight budget. We want to do a beach in Nassau and are wondering if we should do Paradise Island or Cable Beach and if we should pay for a day pass at one of the hotels offering such. If so, which hotel is best (and cheapest).
