We are flying in to LAX 3 days before and would like to stay in Beverly Hills area. Can we rent a car at Lax and drop somewhere close to San Pedro port. On return from cruise we want to fly LAX to SFO. Any suggestion on where to stay and time line geting from place to place would be greatly appreciated !

Thanking everyone in advance.

Hi,

I strongly suggest you put "Los Angeles" in the search mode at the top of the main page of "West Coast Departures". It should bring up some great tips by "Bruin Steve" which he posted on March 5, 2008.

The hotels in the Beverly Hills area are very very pricey. There is a Marriott Residence Inn a mile from Beverly Hills -- 1177 S. Beverly Drive, L.A. 310-228-4l00 which is in the $250 per night category for June and a Courtyard By Marriott in Century City (two miles from Beverly Hills), 10320 W. Olympic Boulevard, L.A. 310-556-2777 which is in the $220 price range per night for June. My relatives have stayed at the Courtyard and some friends at the Residence Inn.

As far as returning the car to San Pedro, just ask the car rental company when your book your car about the return fee and if they have an office in San Pedro. If not, you can return it to the airport and arrange for Super Shuttle to take you to San Pedro to board the ship.

The Los Angeles Area is very big -- Bruin Steve gives the top highlights for you in his post.

San Francisco is just one hour flying time from LAX. I'm sure someone on this board can fill you in on S.F. hotels. Just put San Francisco in the search mode and it should pop up.

Curious about why you decided to stay in Beverly Hills? Know someone there? Have business in that area?

Staying at the beach (Santa Monica for example) is much more popular, and can be less expensive (although there are lux places there too).

Enterprise is the only car rental company with an office in San Pedro, and they will charge you a drop-off fee. They are not open many hours on Saturday or Sunday. Your other option would be to drop the car at Long Beach airport and cab or shuttle from there to the cruise ship terminal.

You can fly United to SFO or Southwest to Oakland from LAX. I usually take Southwest as it is much cheaper, and easy to get to BART to get into San Francisco if that is where you are going.
