kitkat725 Posted March 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2008 We are sailing on the Carribean Princess and stopping in St Maarten. My DH and I were thinking about doing the St Martin Mountain Bike Adventure excursion in Marigot-has anyone done this? What are your opinions of it? Can it be done on our own instead of going through the cruise line? Thanks for any and all info!
lili0606 Posted March 27, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2008 I did a mountain bike tour here with Royal Caribbean. If it's the same one- be prepared for a major workout. I was deceived or maybe a bit naive but I thought it was going to be a lot of off-road but no hence the "mountain" part came into play here :o It was mostly off road on the mountain. It said there was going to be only one hill and we started off on the road and came to a hill on road (which was hard enough) but that was not the hill they were referring to  Then I saw the mountain they expected us to ride up ( a lot of us had to walk our bikes up the last part). Downhill sounded easy but there were so many rocks (again hence the word mountain) that I thought I was going to hit one and kill myself. However, even though I hated it while I was doing it, I was very proud I finished and the tour guides were great. At the end you stop at Friars Beach, which was beautiful and you get to see a lot of the country driving there and back and on the bike (if you can enjoy it while trying not to kill yourself ;) ) All in all- if you have mountain biked before I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If you haven't been on a bike since you were 15 (like me) you'll probably enjoy it more after the fact :D

dawntrdr Posted February 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2010 We just got back from a Celebrity Summit cruise of the Caribbean and agree with Lili0606; it still seems to be the same tour with the same rocks and same fear of imminent bodily harm. Nevertheless we were proud to finish it and enjoyed Friar's beach. By the way, the minimum age is listed as 12 but my 14 yr old daughter found it very difficult. High school (if you are athletic) and older is my opinion.
