Dubrovnik old town

Recommended Posts

What is the best way to get to the old town in Dubrovnik? Does it require local currency and can I get this at the port? How about for things at old town and the fee to walk the walls? Thanks for any help.

We were there last May.

We came in by tender. You walk off the quayside straight into the Old Town. For local currency there are cash machines along the main street.

For the entrance to the walls turn right as you come into the old town - it is about two hundred yards along the road. The ticket booth took local currency and euros. From memory it was about 7 euros each.

Im pretty sure we docked and paid a few $ to take the ship's shuttle bus into town...about a 10 minute ride. You enter the gates of the city and the monastery with one of the first apothecaries is on the left. Visited one of the oldest synagogues in Europe, walked up and down the great side streets, went to a Sunday morning church service, walked the wall, had a fantastic lunch (again "up" one of the side streets). We used an ATM to get enough kuna for the wall admission and lunch but they probably accept Euros......beautiful views from the wall....we were there in late October and the weather was great.....took the shuttle bus back to the ship.....I imagine you could walk and although we are walkers we opted for the bus...Marty

Check our blog about our day in Dubrovnik.

On the recommendation of our driver we walked down to the other end of Old Town, and entered the wall from there...less crowded. We bought lunch and shopped for a couple of things over the course of the day and only used Euro.

Enjoy your planning.
