PJ's Posted April 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Hi We are on the Balmoral from 1st - 12th May, flying from Manchester. Just received Tours Programme 2008 from Fred Olsen yesterday (Sat. 5/4/08) together with a booking form for us to book any tours we wish to take while on the cruise. No cabin numbers yet, nor did we receive any flight details so we rang our TA yesterday to see if they had any info. on flights. Got back to us straight away with the flight times and flight numbers, but say that FO only sort the cabin numbers nearer the time and we should receive these with our tickets, approx. 14 days before departure although our TA did say that FO would ring them as soon as they had our cabin numbers and they would then ring us with the information. Don't know if they will or not, but we'll see. Carol
Joan of Oz Posted April 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2008 We have not received our cruise documents and as we leave in less than three weeks from Australia to stay three nights in Rome before the cruise we hope the documents don't arrive after we leave. We arranged our own air flights. We received our cabin number when we booked with a USA agent a couple of months ago. We cannot book any tours in advance without Fred Olsen information. Hopefully it will all end up OK. has anybody received cabin numbers or other info yet ?
1supergran Posted April 8, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted April 8, 2008 joan of oz - have received details of excursions for the first half of our trip - FO seem to be treating it as two halves - no details of second half excursions yet. Is there any way I can let you have copies if you dont get yours? All the blogs seem to suggest booking ahead is preferable. PJ - what time does the Manchester flight get into Rome? We are due to land 10am from Stanstead. Presumably they will try to dovetail all the arrivals for coaches out to the ship.
Joan of Oz Posted April 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2008 Thank you 1supergran for your offer however we sent an email to our travel agent - we have booked through ***** - he immediately contacted Fred Olsen and they have emailed us all details of available tours and some booking forms. As it appears they still have not posted our cruise tickets they are going to email copies to us so that we will be sure of having them before we leave - there are only 14 working days for the postman to deliver. Hope to see you on board. Thanks again. PJ's Posted April 9, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2008 Hi again We don't leave Manchester until 1555hrs and arrive in Rome at 1930 hrs. Don't know how long it will take from the airport to the port, just hope we manage to get something to eat when we arrive at the ship. We're booked on the 8.30pm sitting. Hoping to receive tickets, cabin number in the coming week - fingers crossed. Carol

1supergran Posted April 19, 2008 Author #9 Share Posted April 19, 2008 tickets arrived today, cabin 6014 which appears to be at the pointy end of the main deck :) . Disappointed to see that the sauna and steam rooms are not going to be available - how am I going to lose weight now? Also, golfers will be disappointed that golf nets are to be similarly unavailable.
1supergran Posted June 1, 2008 Author #10 Share Posted June 1, 2008 superted, arrived back last week from the back to back trip around the med. loved every minute. early start a pain, but meant we were on the ship by lunchtime ! the flight by Titan was fantastic, real cutlery ! plane about a third full, so lots of space, and sweeties for take-off and landing ! best flight for years. First half of voyage had superb lecturers etc, but second half disappointing, with girl who hadn't bothered to learn about where she was going and just read from a badly prepared script doing the 'port talks'. Felt sorry for the people who joined for the second half. Do your research on the ports, and you can easily go off on your own on local transport. However, you will not get help from the dopey blondes on the tour desk so research beforehand. Food excelent. Staff very friendly and very efficient (except for tours and some on reception). Entertainment for the first half very good, with two excellent comedians, second half comedian funny but crude and a bit lacking in material. Balmoral singers etc very good. This was my first cruise and I would definitely go again.
Pompeyboy Posted June 2, 2008 #11 Share Posted June 2, 2008 Nice post. Good to know about the flight with Titan particularly as we will be flying with them over to Venice in just over a weeks time. Can't wait. Steve
