kente Posted April 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2008 We are considering doing the "Conniseur of Alaska" in 2009, I believe it will be on the Pacific Princess. We have sailed 9 times previously, mostly on Celebrity and RCL. How will a Princess cruise compare? Is the service good when you choose anytime dining since you don't get the same wait staff. On the one NCL cruise we took the service was very poor.
Druke I Posted April 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Unless there has been a very recent change, Pacific Princess does not offer anytime dining, as there is only one dining room. You can of course eat in the buffet rather than the dining room. I for one prefer Princess to Celebrity, and have not been on RCL.
Spikesgirl Posted April 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Michael is right, do be aware of the Pacific Princess's size (670 passengers). It's smaller than most cruise ships, but we enjoy it for that very feature. Things are just a step away, but because there is a lack of space, you will not find all the bells and whistles that some folks have come to expect upon a ship. There are just a couple of shops, there is only one dining room, there isn't a bowling alley, slating rink, full scale movie theater, etc. on the ship. At the same time, there is a beautiful library, several nice lounges and a great little theater. We spent a month on her and never had a problem with cabin fever. Never had a problem with staff or the food on any of the smaller ships. Take the ship for the ease of getting to ports, around the ship itself and for a more relaxed atmosphere. It's a great ship for a port-driven itinerary and we would sail her again in a minute. Charlie
Seal Posted April 6, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2008 :D We've sailed 3 times in the past 1-1/2 years on the Tahitian Princess--sister ship of Pacific Princess---and are cruising Alaska this August 7th--14 day cruise--in the same aft stateroom as 2 other cruises on the Tahitian Princess. So far the smallness hasn't been a problem for us. I don't know if a small ship is the way to see if you would like Princess--since it is totally different than much larger Princess ships--I also love the Crown Princess--they're all great!! whale-watcher Posted April 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2008 We were on the Coral princess for our previous Alaska cruise, and while we loved the experience, we hoped to try a small ship for our second Alaska cruise...but when we discoved the 14 day Tahitian Princess option, we though this was the perfect compromise!
