Mystery dinner

Can anyone tell me about the Mystery dinner, is it on every ship and what's the menu like? I think I heard it's served in Portofinos, so is it the normal Portofino menu or something different? Dee

We did it on the Jewel of the Seas in 2006! :p It was a lot of fun, and naturally I picked the wrong villian, but there were only two entree's, maybe three (3), offered for the Mystery Dinner Theatre....:)

I, personally, have seen it, but would not do it again... I enjoy the varied menu of Portofino's, and the 'intimacy' it provides...:D

Again, its a 'must do' at least once... You may LOVE it, and want to return..!! This is just my experience, IMHO!;)

My wife and I attended on Night 3 on The Explorer Of The Seas last month. They started the evening at 7:00pm up at Dizzys bar with canapees and Champange. The Mystery Show kicked off at Dizzys and then we were all escorted down to Portofino's for dinner and the end of the show.

From what I can remember, we started with a plate of antipasto's each, followed by the same Ceaser salad as in the main DR, and we had a choice of Filet Mignion,Shrimps or Chicken as the main Course. I ordered the Filet Mignon but also asked my waiter for Shrimps, (I really wanted surf-n-turf :D ) which was not a problem. I even ordered a coke out of a can and was not charged extra, I guess for $49.50 pp they could afford to throw it in. FYI, I also threw in an extra $5 pp tip.

The food itself was pretty good, the ambience was great and the Show was awsome. We felt quite lucky because it was the last time that this paticular cast were performing together and they invited a bunch of their friends to watch, thus it lead to lots of fun and hijinx !!!

All in all, we enjoyed it but once would be enough. Next time we cruise we will not do it again.

Thanks for the info! Do you remember what dessert was served. Reason I'm asking is I may decide to eat at Portofinos on the first night of our cruise and also do the Mystery Show on the 3rd night (if that's when it is) so I don't want to order the same thing the first night that will be served at the Show. Unless of course the Mystery Show dinner is completely different than what's normally served at Portofinos. It's our first RCL cruise and I'm soooo excited! Dee

Just got back from Voyager....

We did the Mystery Dinner on Day 5. We signed up when we boarded the ship at Portafinos. Children under 13 are not allowed. We all put our kids in the Adventure Ocean for dinner/evening activities.

Started in High Notes w/ the show...champ and hor d veurs served.

Then on to Portafinos for dinner. Included:

Antipasto appetizer (very good)

Ceasar salad or soup

Entree---filet and lobster (yum) or shrimp dish (didn't have)

Dessert--tiramisu served in chocolate bowl...fancy and delish.

We enjoyed the show. Everyone was seated in about 4 or 5 tables of 10.

If you want a quiet dinner in Portafinos, I wouldn't recommend. It was very fun and a great experience. Food and service were great.

We were served Tiramisu, you could always go to Portofinos and ask to see the menu's for both nights you are considering.

One more question I forgot to ask, I heard the show sells out so can you tell me whenyou sign up for it? Dee

We booked as soon as we got on board.

YES.. THEY CAN BOOK it for you...but, it will sell out and once they have their 49 it is gone. So instead of taking the risk, walk over to Portofinos once you board and sign up.

Thanks! I read another post that said RCCL emails guests staying in suites a week or so ahead of time to ask if they want to make advance spa/chops reservations etc, would we be able to make a reservation for the Mystery dinner by email in advance?

We did this on the Serenade in 2006 and had great fun.

Several on our Meet & Mingle roll call went together, and one person booked for us all on the day of boarding. We had already arranged who would be going, so he knew how many to book for and he asked for us all to be on the same table.

I won! :D I won a bottle of champagne, tote bag, cap, waterproof card holder and various other Royal Caribbean stuff.

It was a really fun evening. We didn't have the full menu offered, but there was plenty to eat and it was all delicious.
